There is so much to love in this episode. It is seriously funny and silly. The one liners are sheer genius.
So.
Why, why, why, why, why, SPN, do you have to include the line, "Go be gay for that poor dead intern?"
It's already so not cool that you have to kill everybody remotely queer. Let's cheapen poor Corbett by having his crush *pretend* to like him.
The thing is, Ed's performance is totally believable. He mentions Corbett's positive traits and he's crying, and I totally believe what he's saying in that moment. My husband has decided to wank it by believing that Harry's go be gay comment is proof of his dickitude and that Ed is being sincere, and Sam and Dean call the 'Facers (cause it's too late to 'pologize LOL) on their exploitation at the end, but so. not. cool. If that line were dropped and everything else in the episode the same, my problem would disappear. (Well, mostly. Corbett still dies.)
It's like they were trying to appeal to the demographic that watches their show that clearly is into dudes with dudes, but fucked it all up by making it a joke so as not to disrupt the viewing enjoyment of the supremely heteronormative.
Or maybe I'm just bitchy today. Am I crazy y'all?

Date: 2008-04-30 05:16 pm (UTC)Like I told Tabi, I thought Ed was being sincere. I just think....hmmm...I think when shows sometimes try to pander to their internet audience they miss the mark. I can totally see the writers around a big table, twirling their pencils and one of them says, "Hey! Let's have a gay guy, cause you know how our internet contingent loves that." And then they make the gay guy the butt of the joke (sorta) because that's what most TV *does* and they don't get that we're not in it for that. Or something. LOL
