French Translation and new lj Friend

My real life buddy, Roman, has made himself an lj romantheauthor in order to hone his original writing skills. He writes mostly horror and fantasy with a smattering of poetry thrown in; if any of you are interested in reading original fic and offering commentary, give Roman a driveby. He's still learning the ropes of lj, so any pointers would be helpful, particularly if you know of comms where he could post his work.

Now the request: can anyone translate these very short passages in a book for me? They're in French but the French may be ungrammatical or otherwise incorrect. This writer was notorious for writing things incorrectly in French.

Am I missing something?

Today I discovered that you can only page back on DW so far. WHICH SUCKS RIGHTEOUSLY! On lj, you can page back and back and back on the friends list, but apparently on DW there's a limit to how far back you can page. Most of you guys are just crossposting to lj and so I haven't missed any of your content, but a few of you like gloss and jackandahat are posting here exclusively and I think torachan even snuck in a DW only post too. I am trying to limit my internet time to work on the dissertation and I had thought I could check DW once every three weeks-ish, but apparently not. And now I feel as if I have missed things! *wail*

So, PSA, I guess. Or else, tell me how I'm doing it wrong. I would love to be doing it wrong.
