[personal profile] endeni asked: if you were in charge of the next Trek movie what would it be like?

This one is tough to answer. Unlike most of y'all, I've actually enjoyed the two Trek Reboot movies, so part of my answer is to keep on in the same vein. I love the way everything looks, I love the actors, and I love the general pacing of the movies.

However, I think the franchise needs to step back from using a pre-existing villain or scenario for the next movie and go back to something new like the first reboot movie did. I think too much reliance on reworking events from original canons would get boring.

My one exception would be the Borg. If they do the work in the story (which frankly would only require a few minutes of screen time) to explain why Earth and humans come to the attention of the Borg much earlier than they do in the original timeline, that could be a fascinating movie. The only person available to Star Fleet right now who knows fuck all about the Borg is Spock!Prime, and this would give him an interesting role to play. In a wishlist of stuff that would never happen, Spock!Prime thinks to track down Guinan because of her knowledge of the Borg and we get bonus Whoopi Goldberg. They could even work the V'ger stuff from The Motion Picture in. IMHO, the connection between V'ger and the Borg is an untapped goldmine. I take it that some of the games and tie-stuff have posited a connection, but nothing canonical has done so. Canon says the Borg have been around for thousands of years, so V'ger can't be the origin of the Borg, but V'ger can have encountered the Borg and gained its sentience from the Collective and that would be a really cool way of bringing our section of the galaxy to the Borg's attention. Also, I find The Motion Picture relatively boring (if beautiful to look at; the ship porn OMG!) even though it does have some lovely character moments and some moments of real emotional depth (*hugs Scotty hard*). I have watched it the least, it resonates with me the least, and I wouldn't find using some of it's components in a new way annoying.

Another story line that would be cool is something to do with the Preservers, the race that apparently seeded our galaxy with life. We get a smidge about them in ToS and I think one TNG episode where scientists from different parts of the galaxy are able to piece together a message from them, but that's it. I want to know more about them and who they really were/are.

I'd also like to see beefier roles for the ensemble cast than what we got in the previous movie. I want to see a deepening of Spock's relationships with both Uhura and Kirk. I want Kirk to interact with his mom and Spock to interact with his dad. I want McCoy to . . . I think I just want McCoy. LOL
