Turkey Day
Nov. 24th, 2015 10:04 pmI am so pleased with Thanksgiving prep. I budgeted 200 for the holiday and ended up spending 144. Whooooooooooo!
I was super stoked to see that we already have a variety of gluten free stuff in the house--Dale's, several bags of chips, popcorn. So I got two boxes of gf crackers to act as snacks.
We're having turkey, and OMG, so many of the turkeys had gluten! WTF?! I couldn't buy the 89 cents a lb turkey because it contained wheat and had to buy the 2.49 a lb turkey. We're doing the turkey as usual with lemon, onions, and fresh herbs in the cavity.
We're also doing mashed potatoes, fresh green beans sauteed in butter and garlic and finished with sherry, corn sauteed up with gf bacon (thank you, Boar's Head, for all your fine selection of gf processed meats) and finished with cream, gf dressing made with gf bread. That was the major expense. 5 bucks a teensy loaf.
I'm doing a beef and veggie stew tomorrow. I got gf pancake mix. We'll have green salad all week. I got some gf pie crust, so desserty-ness is in the works.
Looking good, holiday spread.
(Oh, yeah. Also doing a smoked trout app on English cucumber rounds. Yummo.)
