1. Our encounters with nature have been manifold this week. We had two days of rain, and the creek that lines the street flooded into the roads, so some of the animals in the creek washed into puddles in the road. One puddle got full of minnows which we rescued today and threw back in the creek. We watched a frog laying eggs in the same puddle; we tried to salvage the eggs after she was done, but they were weirdly hard to scoop out, so that was largely unsuccessful.

Eagle eye Fiona was running down the street and suddenly cried out, "Snail!" From a height of nearly four feet, she had seen a brown snail shell the size of a sequin in brown dirt, and it had a snail in it! It very slowly crawled a minuscule amount while we watched. She has clearly inherited her pilot great-uncle's splendid eyesight (unlike literally every other human in her entire family on both sides to the way back LOL).

On the same nature walk, Emma happened to pass us on her daily run. She was ahead of us when a deer burst out of the woods and nearly ran her down! It must have only been two or three feet ahead of her. It was nuts! And then the deer's two nearly grown fawns burst after her (they were essentially her size); the mama deer around here almost always have two babies.

Josh and Fiona saw a hawk swoop down and catch a mouse.

3. I have been very disappointed with Power Rangers Beast Morphers since it's come back from hiatus. Previously it was so character driven, and when it came back from hiatus, it had turned into endless fight scenes. But today's episode returned to the character-driven episode! spoilers )

4. I made shrimp and grits this week. We had made shrimp stock out of the shells of some shrimp we'd cooked in the past. So we made polenta with that stock and stirred in a little butter and half a big log of goat cheese when it was done. I sauteed the shrimp in butter and set them aside; then I sauteed onion and a red bell pepper in butter and garlic, hit it with sherry, and put that plus the shrimp on top of the polenta. It was so yummy. A couple handfuls of parsley and some mushrooms would have made it incandescent.

5. I had a phone date with [personal profile] executrix! It was good times.

6. I am so behind on typing up my Westworld reviews, but damn am I enjoying the hell out of this season.
