So, my World Lit 1 textbook went to a new edition, and a couple of the things I had been teaching are no longer present in this new edition. As is not uncommon, I had to pick something to replace those texts without actually studying them and preparing lessons on them because our syllabi are due at the very beginning of the semester.

I decided to replace Medea with Lysistrata to keep a female protagonist. I've never read Lysistrata, but I know the general plot--Greek women refuse to have sex with their husbands to stop the Peloponnesian War. I thought, this will be fun for the students; it'll be slightly raunchy and they'll have a good time with it.

I started reading it yesterday, and y'all. OMG! This is the most explicit translation. I mean, I'm sure it's much more in keeping with how Aristophanes actually wrote it, but it's so so so explicit. So much fuck and dildoes and we want dick and look at that old lady's pubes and I am going to die teaching this. Thank god I don't actually have any dual enrollment (high school) students in this class whose parents can kick up a fuss. LOL

I will teach this on Monday and then replace it with Sappho's poetry going forward. OMG
