BTVS and ATS

Impossibilities by Jessica Harris; Giles/Xander; Adult
This is not a perfect relationship. In many ways it's not healthy or even a good idea. But this lovely relationship study (see! see how I made up a new literary term!) really delves into Giles's psyche and explores the, well, impossibilities of a relationship with Xander.

Therapy by [livejournal.com profile] kivrin; Wesley/Angel
I think it's so difficult to get inside Wesley's head at the midpoint of his story arc. Write him being a pompous prat? No problem. Write him as a dark and tortured and conflicted and ruggedly handsome anti-hero? You got it. But give me a Wesley that's stuck in the tweeny bits--between the man he was and the one he'll become? That, my dear friends, is really freaking hard to write. And yet, here it is for the reading.

Choices by [livejournal.com profile] crazydiamondsue; Spike/Xander; Adult
Sue is a good writer. And, yes, the sky is blue and the grass is green. And it's no secret that the hallmarks of a Sue fic are humor (deftly handled) and dialogue (straight from the mouth of). Even though the subject matter in this fic is quite serious, there are moments of humor and levity and despite all the scorching hot sex going on in this piece, the real draw is the talking.

This One Does by [livejournal.com profile] uberaeryn; Giles/Spike; Adult
This series spans from season 4 of BTVS to "Not Fade Away," and while it is hilariously funny (the running gag about Giles and Angel slays me), I think the relationship between the two characters runs deep. Giles/Spike is not a pairing that immediately occurs to me on watching the show (neither is S/X for that matter), but Aeryn makes it plausible and romantic and aching. And funny.

SGA

There Are No Fish in My Pond by ; Elizabeth-centric gen
Wow. This is so short that to say too much is to spoil the read.

It Was Her House that Killed Nessarose by [livejournal.com profile] vanitashaze; all permutations of Sheppard, Weir, McKay; Adult
This hurts so wonderfully, beautifully much. I love the way the Wizard of Oz and all its attendant metaphors run through the fic.

Grammatology by [livejournal.com profile] aesc; McShep
I love future fics where Atlantis has become the stuff of myth and legend and you must work backwards to determine what happened to the characters we know and love.

A Candle Against the Ocean by Ryuzua Kochou; Miko-centric gen
What a brilliant, brilliant character study of Miko.

Life on Earth by [livejournal.com profile] ariadne83; Lorne/Sheppard; Adult
At the end of this fic, Ariadne leaves us with the image of a bed stripped bare--an image of both exile and hope and it resonated with me for long after I'd finished reading.

Runner and its sequel The Take Down by [livejournal.com profile] ariadne83; Lorne/Ford
Runner is linked at the very top of the post. Read it first. Ariadne has a real gift for looking into the mechanisms that make plot and character work in canon and using that information to craft something wonderfully sharp and perceptive in her fic.
