My friends and I are making another movie, this time starring plastic Mal and Jayne. We've got a script, and we've spent the past few days gathering dolls to be extras and buying furniture, etc. We're building all the sets, including Serenity. I get to sew pillows and sheets! We have teensy doll furniture, and little bottles of hooch. LOL I also get to be the voice of Kaylee! Whoo hoo! I can't wait to show this thing to you guys. It's gonna be hi-larious, as Jayne would say.

I tip my head back to rest against the partition, watch the ceiling fan slice the fug of smoke. This bar reeks of it, and I miss California so damn hard.

executrix's style. Love it. I love the way many of her fics, this one included, consist of interlocking vignettes. Not chapters, really, but a well-ordered arrangement of scenes. She can say so much about a character just in a quick snap-shot of action. I also love the tone that pervades most of her work. She calls this piece angsty, and it is. It is, at times, heartbreaking. But it is also really funny and really tongue in cheek. And the times when the heartache is the worst is often also the time when the fic is the funniest. She makes me sad and she makes me laugh, and I like nothing more than doing those two things together. Simon looked down from halfway up the ladder. "Nature abhors a vacuum, Mal. Want to put me out of my vocation of loving the insane?" He climbed the rest of the way up and closed the hatch and leaned his forehead against the door. "It's what I do, darlin'."
