1. In an effort to win the title of Pettiest Person Ever to Live, I got my feelings hurt when my mom's weekly update on Dad's condition mentioned everyone in their community who had brought them food or done things for them plus my brother who visited once this week but did not mention the cards I've sent or the calls I've made.

*sigh*

I have a great ambivalence over not being present. On the one hand, I hate that I'm not there to help (and I know I would be visiting them more often, taking over the shopping, running errands, etc., cooking, in a way that my brother is not); on the other hand, I'm glad I don't have to figure out how I am going to handle my Dad hollering at me disrespectfully when he's not just my dad but My Dad Who Has Cancer.

2. In much less selfish and petty news, Downton Abbey was great this weekend. We are going to watch two episodes the next two Sundays and so finish season two before Walking Dead starts up again.

I first have to say that Lord and Lady Grantham's reaction to their house being converted into a recovery ward garners very little sympathy from me. I completely understand that having people you like in your house for extended periods is inconvenient, much less strangers who are ill and wounded. I get that it's annoying. But, oh dear lord, am I unsympathetic to them now having to take their tea in a smaller portion of their diamond and gold encrusted library. LOL I mean, they're not going to lose any of their children to this war. They're still rich. They're still aristocratic. They're still wearing jewels and dressing in finery and eating on the finest china. At least Mary, Sibyl, and Edith aren't being brats about it.

And may I say, brava, Edith! I was so pleased to see her work with the soldiers recognized in such a public way. That's so important for her. I can't imagine what living in a time where I would have to struggle very, very hard to be allowed/able to do anything I saw as meaningful would be like.

For me, that's the emerging focus of the series. Mary is so angry because she can't inherit Downton just because she's a woman. She sees her future as very bleak--flitting from one meaningless party to the next, marrying a man she may or may not love just for his fortune and position, never really connecting with anyone around her in a real way. Edith longs for a purpose, for something that gives her life meaning, and Sibyl seems to have found that. And then Matthew's mother, who I love so dearly, is in the position of having her knowledge, expertise and work consistently devalued not just because she's a woman but because she's from the wrong class. I have to admit that every time she and McGonagall clash, I'm totally rooting for Matthew's mom; and every time she and Lady Grantham butted heads in this last episode, I was on Matthew's mom's side.

The Dowager is an odd outlier in the show. She seems never to have chafed in her role as a woman (though she is angry about the entail on Mary's behalf), I suspect because no one has ever told her no all her live long days. I would love to read the fanfic that has her wrestling with some of the same issues as the other women in the series and perhaps even quietly admiring Matthew's mom.

I feel so sorry for poor Daisy. If next episode has her pushed into marrying William before he ships off, I am going to be horrified. I am also worried about where the Bates/Anna romance is headed. Season after season of him putting her off is going to get old really fast.

3. Gotham was so much fun this week. I love Oswald Cobblepot as a parody of Donald Trump. Josh and I giggled throughout this whole episode. I am so happy to see Penguin and Ngma reunited. Selina just tore at my heartstrings. I hope she realizes that Bruce *really* isn't himself soon. I can't believe Lee is about to marry Falcone's son. Whoa. Also her jewelry is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing in that dinner scene. Loved Barbara going violent on Jervis (who is very, very creepy; hello, Mr. Wolf from Walking Dead). Do not like the reporter. At all.

4. Lucifer was also super fun. Tricia Helfer is so freaking hot. I hope she wears Maze's clothes for the duration of her appearance on the show. *fans face* LOL I expect Lucifer/Mom to skyrocket in the coming weeks; they have a lot of chemistry together. I am deeply concerned about Amenadiel and what's happening to him. That scene where we are finally shown his deteriorating wings almost made me cry. I hope Mom can fix him or at least set him on the right path to figuring out what's going on. Looks like we're getting some Maze&Linda interaction next episode, so yay!

5. My google-fu is failing me. Can anybody point me to icons of Hillary Clinton and icons for the show Lucifer?
