1. Spa day was glorious. I splurged for gel polish on my fingernails; I can't keep a manicure more than 5 minutes, and the gel stays on for the long haul. Of course, when you finally take it off, your nails are dry and sad, but for two weeks, they look awesome. LOL

2. Talking to my friend was also awesome. I haven't spoken to her in at least 15 years, but it was like we picked right back up where we left off. I hope we stay in touch (which might be hard since I don't do any social media outside of DW).

The first day of school on a Friday?!

I thought it was really weird at first, too, but I have come to like it. The first day of school is always a throw away anyway, just orientation and acclimation stuff. So they do all that on a Friday, and when they come back to school on Monday, they can start actual learning and class. Also, we live in a pretty rural area, and often getting school supplies entails driving to a city about 40 minutes away. We do have a small Wal-Mart here, but the school supplies go really quickly. If school starts on a Monday, we're looking at traveling to get supplies on a school day; if it starts on Friday, we can do it over the weekend.

Without getting involved in social media in general, you can schedule a monthly-or-so Skype or chat date with your friend and catch up then!

I can't believe everyone is back to school. Up here it's not until after Labor Day. Summer *is* August.

And that's very cool to reconnect with an old friend. I still think about my best friend from K-8th grade. And yeah, doing SM helps with stuff like that- but then there are all the other people from your childhood/adolescence who find you and....

When I was a kid in MS, we started the day after Labor Day. Emma is sixteen, and she's started school here in GA in August from the beginning although the start date has slowly gotten earlier and earlier in August.

I always say that I don't do Facebook because I don't want to constantly tell students I won't be friends with them, but the real and main reason is that I don't want to be friends with my family who would drive me nuts with all their political and religious postings.

The last day is usually around May 19-20.

IDK why it shifted forward. I know they do a looooooooooot of teacher days in this district. It astonished me how many vacation days they have each semester that are teacher workdays. That might be part of it.

I do love a gel manicure! I love how long it stays on. Also, the fact that once it's put on, you don't have to sit there waiting for your nails to dry. :-D
