You are so spot on about Azula. The thing about being the golden child is that you know it's conditional, and you live every day under the pressure of having to be perfect so you won't lose your place.

And then her worst nightmare comes true: she finally gets to a point where she *thinks* her father is rewarding her, but it turns out to be empty. And she gets left behind. And what does she say? "How dare he treat me like Zuko!"

That's what breaks her - she dedicated her whole life to something she could never 100% trust, and it left her unable to trust *anybody*. And when she's proved right, she snaps.
