Blake, and many of his former comrades, had seen faces like that. Often, the last thing they ever saw was the face of a man who, depending on employment conditions, might spend his work shift shoving loaves of pumpernickel into ovens. Or people. And he’d be just as happy working for the new regime as the one it replaced. In fact, one of the things that made Blake worry about the ambiguities of victory would be the need to put Jayne and his ilk on the payroll.
