Who wants me to mail them some perfume?

I have so many imps and vials of perfumes that need new homes. If you have something to trade, I'll gladly trade with you, but I will just as gladly send you a big ass box of perfume samples for nothing in exchange because I'd like to reclaim my dresser. LOL See the bottom of the post for samples on offer.
We have recently tried many things that did not work for us (hence the mess on my dresser LOL), so I'll briefly list those here (all BPAL) with a few testing notes.
Before I begin, a note of interest to fans of BPAL's Envy: Dorothy Prentice Aromatherapy Sweet Sea Grass Collection smells exactly like Envy and is great for layering shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. with that scent.
Hemlock
This is one of those with no real description on the site. I smelled rosemary, evergreens such as juniper or spruce--the sharp, green, herbality of which turned ever sweeter as I wore it. All three of us liked it but less so as time passed. Josh also smells sandalwood and myrrh in the mix. Nice but not a keeper.
Nefertiti
Egyptian iris and olibanum with red and white sandalwood, soft myrrh and a breath of North African herbs.
Nobody is into this one. I would have said before I started my Adventures in Perfumery that I liked incense and would have predicted that I'd be drawn to those scents; however, I have so far disliked them more often than not, and this is no exception. I get that same overpowering scent of gasoline that I've gotten with so many other BPAL scents. This mellows over time, becomes less petrol and more sandalwoody, but not enough to save the scent for me.
The Lotus Tree
Honey-sweet and soporific
Emma swears this makes her sleepy, and I have written down "lily pad" in my notes under her column, but I have no idea what this could mean anymore. LOL I smell play-doh, and it reminds me of the Ancient and Noble House of Guerlain. I imagine this would work beautifully for someone who digs that House. :)
Voodoo
A deep, powerful, resonant blend of myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, lime, vanilla, pine, almond and clove.
Emma says this smells deep and earthy and puts a metallic taste in her mouth; she instantly and viscerally hates it. It smells like lime in the vial to me, and the lime is very prominent to begin with. Leather underpins the scent, but ultimately the almond predominates. Josh thinks it smells like cinnamon, almond, and (inexplicably) banana. Another one that's not for me.

Date: 2015-01-16 04:32 am (UTC)I've had some people make requests on the LJ version of this post, so I can't guarantee what will be around at any given time, but I've got stuff to give away, you are always welcome.

Date: 2015-01-19 02:40 am (UTC)Here's what I am going to do. You and three other people are interested in trying a variety of things as a kind of intro to perfume. My daughter and I still have about two dozen samples to test. When we are done with this round of testing, I will divvy up everything we didn't care for among the four of you based on what I think you might like and send it along. It'll probably be about two weeks.
PM me your address, and when I get it out in the mail, I'll let you know.
Are you in the US? I think I might have trouble mailing perfume internationally.

Date: 2015-02-18 03:14 am (UTC)I decanted everyone an imp of Eau de Rochas. I think the rest of what you're getting is BPAL. I have tried to remember to write the year on the BPAL imp labels that I bought, but I may have forgotten one or two as I went through and last minute added some imps to the give-away pile. You may have an imp or two that someone swapped me of indeterminate age. I really do think the age of the imp affects the smell, so if you're curious, ask me and I'll let you know if it's a 2014 imp I forgot to label.
Suggestions for testing: You can look up a description of each scent on the BPAL website. Fragrantica and Basenotes also have good note listings for scents. If you're really serious about figuring out what you like, you might want to keep some kind of record as you test. I would also suggest not giving up on a scent immediately unless you have a visceral DO NOT WANT OMG ICK ICK reaction; some scents morph quite a bit over time, and I know I've ended up enjoying perfumes I didn't like until the top note burned off.
I hope you enjoy these and I'd love to hear what you think about them.

Date: 2015-01-19 02:42 am (UTC)Are you interested in anything in particular from this list (the Cuir de Russie and Voodoo have been claimed already) or just wanting to try anything out?

Date: 2015-01-19 02:46 am (UTC)See my comment upthread to king_touchy about sending your samples. I suspected you were going to say you didn't have a preference, and so you are one of the group of four people I reference in that comment.

Date: 2015-02-19 07:32 pm (UTC)is "baby powder walked into a headshop" a ... description that makes sense?

Date: 2015-02-22 02:15 am (UTC)That does indeed sound like a viable scent description to me. LOL
