ana_grrl's Random Title Generator Masterlist. This ficathon turned out scads of fic and art in a variety of fandoms including Firefly, SPN, SGA, Torchwood and Sports Night. Go read!!
On the way back into town from New Orleans, I rented Stargate the movie because I'd borrowed SG-1 season one from my parents and I figured in for a penny, in for a pound. I'd only seen the movie once in the theaters but I remembered that I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it this time as well, but not nearly as much as either series. I think the series special effects are far superior and I think Richard Dean Anderson's interpretation of Colonel O'Neill is much more interesting than Kurt Russell's. Of course, in his defense, it's a lot easier to develop a character over the course of a season than two hours of a movie.
I'm three episodes away from the season finale of SG-1 season one and I gotta say, I'm loving it. Despite the occasional bomb (O'Neill has to grow old to discover carpe diem? Lame), I think the growing closeness between the team members is beautifully drawn and it's fun watching them discover the things that are just taken for granted on SGA. I've also started watching SGA season three and it's shaping up to be great as well. They just keep on sliding down that slippery slope don't they? LOL
And in conclusion, how much do I love Elizabeth Weir and Sam Carter and Dr. Frasier? More than words can say.

rageprufrock McShep, PG-13ish OMG, this is insanely hilarious. I don't know that any other fic has ever made me laugh as hard as this one did. I thought I was going to damage myself. Rodney freaking kills me here. He wants to discover why everyone on Atlantis is going crazy with yarn and Zelenka helps him but proves to be a wily blackmail material gatherer and there is the hideous misuse of Celine Dion. Oh, y'all. Read it.
Absurdity Theory by
julad Rodney/Radek Adult This is crack of the very best kind. Rodney and Radek are cursed to speak only as ducks. You read that right. Ducks. With the honking and the quacking. As a result they end up in bed together. I heart this fic madly.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern by
in_wintertime Rodney and Ford gen Adult What if Rodney never stopped taking the enzyme? What would happen then? What I love most about this fic is that it is one of despair, bleak and utter despair, that still manages to find a moment or two of joy in the friendship between McKay and Ford.

Date: 2007-08-14 06:29 pm (UTC)I'm intrigued to find out what some fans found deal breaky about the show.
Speaking of which, I just watched "Irresistable", the ep you dislike so much in SGA. It certainly wasn't my favorite, but I didn't detest it. It seemed to me like they were doing a kind of TOS Harcourt Fenton Mudd homage with Lucius. Of course, I always hate the way Beckett's character is played for a laugh so I didn't like that part.
Then I watched "Sateda" and I don't think I have to express to you how awesome that ep is. From the gloriously rich background we get for Ronon to the inventive way they shot the ep to Ronon's utter badassery and the way they are all such a family--one of the best eps of the whole series I think.

The thing I hated about "Irresistible" was the way the writers played serial rape for laughs. That makes me really madly furious. Viciously, vituperatively, vengefully, vindictively, violently, vitriolically, vehemently (and likely many other V words as well) angry. They wrote Lucius like a sort of bumbling comic-relief guy, and really just no. He gets another ep later, too.
"Sateda" is the only ep I've never seen, but I've been trying to catch it in re-runs for ages. It looks so shiny!

Date: 2007-08-15 05:37 pm (UTC)I agree with you about Lucius. It really is a serious topic to make light of. I didn't think he was interesting enough to show up again. Huh.
I think my SG-1 Netflix should get here tomorrow so I'm looking forward to more watching!!
