So, under the cut you'll find McShep and other slash pairings as well as gen fic organized by category. Enjoy!
Big Damn Rec List
Like a Long, Slow Nervous Breakdown by
cesperanza McShep Adult This is John and Rodney finding each other amidst all the chaos and danger that Pegasus affords. I’m a huge sucker for people realizing how much they want to sex each other up after they’ve been captured and imprisoned together and this piece definitely delivers in that regard.
Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead by
cesperanza McShep Adult This fic is set during the time after “Seige 3” when all the department heads are back on Earth. The fic focuses on the burgeoning relationship between John and Rodney but it’s the little details that are so poignant for me here—Elizabeth dressing up to see a Simon we know will ultimately reject her. This is a fic about displacement, about realizing that the place you believe to be home isn’t your home any longer. It’s about moving forward from there.
Proof by
devildoll McShep Adult This is John and Rodney back on earth whereupon John is a complete (yet endearing) moron and Rodney must correct his stupidity. This is very funny and also very sweet—the good crack.
Speaker for the Dead by MrsHamill McShep In this fic, John deals with Rodney’s death in a rather unorthodox manner. I have to admit that I don’t completely buy that John would react this way, but if I suspend my disbelief over his choice to exile himself, I can appreciate how beautifully written this piece is. We get a very lovely glimpse into Athosian death rituals and we also get an interesting picture of what John might do with himself if he lived in solitude and with little technology.
Doing this Here by
purna McShep Adult John and Rodney have never taken their relationship off Atlantis, but this time earthside they just can’t help themselves and this inability to be without each other is indicative of all the things they feel but haven’t said to each other yet. They don’t kiss each other even, for crying out loud and here Sheppard is just dying to kiss Rodney while they eat pizza on his lousy sofa bed. I love watching them renegotiate the parameters of their relationship and how confusing it is for them.
The Ratio of Burning by
stillane McShep Adult Rodney is transformed on a mission to another planet into someone who is smarter and more efficient but completely lacking in personality. He is no longer himself and everyone mourns his loss. Can Rodney ever recover? This is glorious; so full of angst which is then wonderfully resolved.
Hindsight by
rageprufrock McShep Adult This is an AU in which Sheppard is an FBI agent (there’s a vid that accompanies this fic where JF is running around in some sex-ass suit and wielding a gun so I wonder if there’s a show where he was an FBI agent that this is supposed to be crossing over with) who finds himself involved with the SGA Dr. McKay we all know and love. I think this is a superb story. This man is still John Sheppard, just John Sheppard with a different job. And it’s interesting watching Rodney navigate a relationship with this man to whom he can reveal nothing about his work. This is a link to the sequels of this story (three parts in all); link takes you to the third part; second part is linked at top.
Legion the Things I Would Give to Oblivion by Auburn McShep, Sheppard/Teyla/McKay Adult This story is told in a rather unorthodox manner; reading it is much like playing with those paper games we’d make as kids that unfolded every which way and revealed a different answer depending on what section we chose to unfold. This is apocafic at its best—terrible, bleak, tragic, hurty and I swear you will love it.
Untitled by svendra Ford/Sheppard Adult I’ve come across very little of this pairing which disappoints me as Ford is one of my favorite characters in the series. I very much like the sort of disjointed way this is written, the little fragments and slices slotting together in interesting ways. I also like this characterization of Ford—easy, sweet, giving, just as gorgeous in his heart as that big toothed smile on his face. Which I realize is an incredibly sappy way to describe a character but that’s the way I see him—truth, justice and the American way shining like a beacon from those white white teeth and such utter goodness and affability. Really like this story.
Be My Homeward Dove by
harriet_spy Gen This piece is set during the time after “Siege 3” when all the department heads of Atlantis are on Earth. McKay, Weir and Carson attend Sheppard’s promotion ceremony and then they spend the night out on the town. Not much happens in this fic, but we get such a beautiful portrait of the friendship between these characters that this is not to be missed. I like quiet fics like this where what you leave the story with is an overwhelming sense of how much the characters like and trust and respect each other and how important they are in each other’s lives.
Geek Protocol by Koschka Gen This story is written in first person and from John’s perspective which I thought would bother me; I don’t usually enjoy first person fanfic. But this is such a treat that after awhile I didn’t even notice. I mean, seriously y’all, this story kicks ass. Ford’s still around and Radek is on the mission with them and Rodney is all heroical and hardcore (well for Rodney). This has one of my favorite moments in all the SGA I’ve read. You’ll know it when you see it. There’s a gun and Rodney means business.
