It's Friday; therefore, I meme. [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat asked me to expound on the following:

SPN

Recent musings on SPN include wondering where they will take Ruby's character. I absolutely love her character, both incarnations; I've thoroughly enjoyed both actresses and I've enjoyed the way they continue to toe the line of moral ambiguity with her. We know that Ruby has Sam doing something he either doesn't like or thinks is wrong in the course of training with his powers and I can't wait for the big reveal. I am terribly afraid that they will reveal her to have been Evil All Along and it's going to disappoint me very much if the resolution to her story arc is lame. Other musings include noticing that the fandom seems to have jumped full force into RPF; on any given day on the newsletter, there is usually just as much RPF as there is fic in all the other categories combined. I've noticed that as the series has gone on, I've pretty much stopped reading show fic and started mostly reading RPF of the AU and non-AU variety. Clearly, a lot of other people have as well. I wonder why?

Chaya

Chaya is a really interesting character. Her punishment is so cruel, so torn from the pages of a Greek myth. I admire her devotion to and her protection of the one corner of Pegasus that she is allowed to save and mourn with her for the rest of the galaxy that she cannot. Her story is just one more example of why I think that the Ancients were mostly bat-shit insane sadists. The more we find out about them, the less there is to like (which is one of the things that always bothered me about Elizabeth's character. I love Elizabeth, don't get me wrong, and I love that she is fallible and has flaws, but her devotion to the Ancients even after they discover so many skeevy things the Ancients did has never sat right with me).

Being a Fannish Parent

Emma has seen a lot of vids. She is very partial to an SGA vid set to "Star Trekkin' Across the Universe." She has never seen an episode of SPN because I still think it's too scary for her, but she's seen plenty Star Trek and SGA. I'm still deciding how I feel about her being aware of my fannish activities. I am not going to hide them from her because I'm not ashamed of them, I'm just not sure exactly how to negotiate her access to what I've written. I know I was a vindictive little bitch when I was a teenager and I can so see her in a fit of pique, forwarding my McClane/Farrell panties kink fic to all her friends. LOL It will be interesting to see what kinds of rules and boundaries we end up having to set when she gets old enough to really use the internet on her own.

The Jossverse

Oh, Joss Whedon. You still have my heart. And my hanky. Nobody mixes the hilarious and the heart-rending so successfully. I think Joss Whedon has had more affect on popular culture than most other creators; the way his characters speak has infused our culture. My students, most of whom have only a vague idea of who Buffy is, speak in Jossisms. I haven't watched his new show, mostly because I can't remember to turn on the TV regularly. LOL

favorite non-fannish hobby

Hmmmmm......I read, but that's not really a hobby. It's more a way of existing. I am pretty much all the time reading. I love listening to music, but I don't find myself collecting it the way I used to and since we don't have a stereo at the moment, my music listening is pretty much confined to the car or when I'm messing around on youtube. I don't really make anything or do anything that could be considered a hobby. I collect dishes--salt cellars and demitasse cups and olive forks. Pretty much anything pretty that can go on the table. I love antique-ing but have no money to buy anything. I guess my hobby is drinking? And cooking. I love to do both a little too much. Josh and I are both giving up alcohol for Lent and I'm actually looking forward to a stint of sobriety. We were always the heaviest drinkers in our circle of friends in Oxford but here, pretty much all our friends drink as much as we do, which is very enabling. LOL And so, we've been drinking a little too much since we've moved to GA. Some detox will do us good before we jump back into the fray. :)
