Untitled Jared Padalecki Project by
esohpe Jared/Jensen Adult I love this fic. It is everything I could want from RPF. There is angst (OMG the angst); there’s sexual tension that permeates pretty much every sentence of the fic; there’s also a really nice pace to the story that I think creates a sense of anticipation. I love that so much of the story is told through the lens of acting; the boys are working are on a movie together and the scenes they are forced to rehearse and shoot end up being so much more about themselves than the fictional characters they play. The pivotal moment in the fic in which the boys are shooting the climax of their film is just perfection; I love the way the author uses this other of layer fiction to give us insights to Jensen and Jared. Jensen and Jared really hurt each other in this story; they misunderstand each other; they are angry at each other; they really rip each other to bits. And it’s lovely.
Wincest
Wild Men Who Caught and Sang the Sun by
kroki_refur Adult This is such a different version of Wincest than I've read before and I like it very much. It's a very bleak vision of what that relationship could be, one that's very difficult to read because it's so hurty, but man does it hit all my angst buttons so sosososo hard. This is reluctant Wincest, Wincest born of a kind of desperation and fear and utter fatalism. It hollows out my heart to think of Sam’s motivations in this way. Absolutely amazing.
Give or take the subject or the verb by
joyfulgirl41 Adult Bodyswap fic and smoking hot. This is by turns angsty and funny and I love the way they both come to understand each other by walking around in each other’s bodies. Did I mention the hot part?
John/Dean
Familiar Admonishments by
teand (underaged Dean) Adult I don't normally read parent/child incest stories because I find them disturbing and this story was no exception. I think it is an incredibly well-written and powerful examination of how damaging a relationship like that could be for both John and Dean. I think the character insights here are magnificent; I feel as if the author has really stripped the characters down to their bare bones and stroke by stroke built them back up again, showing us their fears and their motivations. Viewing Dean's character through the lens of this defining experience is a really interesting and very sad exercise.

All My Words Come Back to Me by
luzdeestrellas This is a Christmas fic in which Sam and Dean revisit the tradition of their childhood. If this fic does not make your heart grow ten sizes in your chest, then you really need to loosen your corset. "Sam," Dean says, and Sam knows he should stop, but they map their lives in scars and wounds, by how long they can stay standing and how many ways they can dodge the bullet or beat the odds, but they never say the things that break them aren't the ghosts or the demons. They pretend their lives are bound up in the story of the hunt -- or maybe only Sam did; maybe Dean was always smarter in the ways that counted -- the twisting path of the bullet or the arcing plunge of the knife, but Sam knows better now, even if it took too long to see. Their lines have always been straight, intertwined but forever in the same direction. Maybe if he can make Dean understand that he knows, Dean can stop being trapped by how much they love him.
Six of One by
vee_fic Adult I really, really enjoyed this story. I think it’s a brilliant idea that’s very well fleshed out. However, I did find the premise initially confusing, so I’m gonna lay it out for you here: in order to protect Dean from the YED, Sam takes over Dean’s persona. The way I understand it, the two of them don’t switch bodies, but Sam somehow convinces Dean that Dean is Sam and Dean has all of Sam’s memories and personality traits and none of his own. Sam pretends to be Dean—he has both Dean’s memories/personality and his own. Once Sam has made this switch, he leaves behind a gravely injured Dean (who thinks he’s Sam) and spends several years on his own fighting against the YED. This fic made me cry, over and over again. The pain that both brothers feel from their separation is amazingly well done. There’s also a cast of OCs (other psychic children) that are extremely well drawn and used to amazing effect. I don’t think I can say enough about how wonderful this story is; it’s really excellently well plotted and its emotional depth is astounding. This fic *hurts* and it’s also full of hope and moments of joy that shine through the pain. A must read.
And it Went Right to my Head by
kimonkey7 Adult Wow. This is Dean mourning John in the only way he knows how; this is a son who desperately misses his father and all that word represents. We also get a picture here of a Dean we’ve not seen much of canonically, a Dean who once did not always toe the party line and who sometimes dreamed of something different. I guess this is the rec post of un-remitting angst, ‘cause y’all…*weeps*
Straight on Til Morning by
trollprincess Mary-centric gen Oh, *hugs the world tight* This is an AU in which Mary survives the fire and she is so strong and so tough and she bears her scars as a badge of honor and if Mary was anything, *anything* like the way TP writes her in this fic, then I can understand why losing her was the single defining moment of John's life. I'm late to the game on this one, so I'm sure you've all read, but if you haven't, you really must.
Thirty Two Flavors by
trollprincess Dean-centric Gen This is written in a unique and very lovely fractured style. Excellent look at what makes Dean tick.
Real Men Don't Make Cheesecake by
trollprincess Dean-centric and Adult Dean takes a Home Ec class in high school. Oh, Dean. Oh, Dean. Really that's about all I can say. Our boy is so smart and so squishable.
