While writing my column for CSSD (thank you again,
executrix), I came across this fascinating article about the ways in which the authority and credibility of instructors of color are continually challenged in classrooms on predominately white college campuses. I was going to cut and paste my review for the article and then thought the better of it as that might violate copyright issues with the publication. Suffice it to say that this is one of the more interesting articles I've read in a long time that makes many salient points about race, academia and gender. It heavily excerpts interviews from instructors of color (and I totally dig on the personal narrative in academic articles). I think this piece speaks very cogently to many of the points I saw raised during Racefail (most notably disproportionately placing the burden of education about race on the shoulders of minorities) and I encourage everyone, academic or not, to read this article.
I'll email you a copy if you comment or email with your address, although if comment volume is high I can't promise instantaneous delivery. Soooooooooooo busy. :)
