Josh and I talked to Emma about what I'd overheard her talking about with her friends. Turns out her teacher was not being the jackass I assumed she was; yes, yes, this is what I get for eavesdropping. Put into context, the teacher was not suggesting that Muslims are all bad people with a select good few in the mix but rather was responding to a student who said that all Muslims are terrorists and was correcting that prejudice. So now, I feel better about that particular exchange. Because Josh and I had a serious conversation about whether we needed to go up to the school and say something to the teacher, but I really don't feel comfortable with that kind of intervention until he has tenure, too. (Which I realize is a shitty and cowardly thing to say, but in a small town like this . . . . )

In other news, Josh and I made udon the other night for the first time, and it got rave reviews. Tima spent the night last night and asked for udon again for lunch today even though they ate it last night for dinner, and Feefers ate two servings. *boggles* (Recipes upon request) Of course, the child defies all culinary expectations. She likes my soda water and lemons and lettuce. She kept trying to drink my bitters drink I made this afternoon to settle my stomach, so I stuck my finger in it and put it in her mouth to show her she really did not want to drink bitters. The child grins and attacks my glass with renewed fervor. LOL

And soon we will be eating the chicken and dumplings Josh made from scratch; he boiled a whole chicken last night to make the stock, and then used the Cook's Illustrated recipe to actually make the dish. I think I am in heaven.

What's going on with y'all? What are you having for dinner?
