Some quick updates
Apr. 29th, 2022 08:26 am1. I got my hair done yesterday, and it is glorious. I mean. Wow. I love my hair stylist. She is so good. My hair is longer now than it has been in a decade at least, and I'm loving it. It's thicker than it used to be which is so weird and not the usual trajectory for middle age LOL. I've also gone to coloring it a lighter shade (much closer to my natural color) with some highlights rather than the darker tones I used to favor, and I think it's more flattering.
2. I have decided that it's not okay that I will go for days without washing my face and putting on lotion because I'm wearing a mask and who cares. (Don't worry, I'm still washing my body and putting on deoderant every day LOL). I am embracing the self-care. I have gone through all my makeup drawers and thrown away everything that is old and smelled off and set aside the shades that are now unflattering that I might rehome (I realized about five years ago that the really dark saturated eye colors I used to love do not look good on me anymore; they are really aging now.). I took inventory of all the skincare stuff I have. I have gone back to my daily skin care routine. And I am going to go buy some shit today after my meetings In Town. Retail therapy, ahoy!
3. In fact, I am going to try to make some several changes. I saw the doc again, and my cholesterol only went down like 6 points which is to be expected as I only tried to lower it for like a month and then went back to my terrible ways. I fessed up and asked to try to lower it again before going on a statin drug, and she said, "Girl," (we are in the South and my doc is from this tiny town where I live, and this is straight up no lie how she talks)--"Girl, your HDL is through the roof. You are rocking that good cholesterol. Plus you're just a little high. Go try again. I don't want to give you medicine if I don't have to." So I am genuinely going to try to get my cholesterol down which is going to involve trying to move my body more than the not moving my body at all that I am currently doing. I actually feel pretty good about stuff right now. Optimistic. Positive. IDK
4. My presentation proposal to the Victorian Popular Culture Conference was accepted! It is held in England but they're doing a virtual component so I will be presenting at 6:30 in the morning one day in July. Whooooo! :)
5. I got a poem package from
minoanmiss! Fiona was instantly besotted with the Johnny Cash song included and snagged it and some magnets made of MM's gorgeous drawings. I have bedecked my journal with the rest and smile every time I open it.
