Emma has the flu. Maybe. Who knows? Her bloodwork indicates a virus or infection, and she's had a fever for four days, but no other symptoms. The flu test came back negative, but they're treating her for it anyway. Did I mention that this is the second time in about a month that she's been ill in this manner? She had a fever with no other symtoms for three days over Christmas vacation.

And to top off this wonderful week of figuring out how to manage work with an ill child who can't go to school and probably won't be able to attend again until next week (How do people with less flexible schedules than ours deal with this kind of thing? I love my job):

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with severe neck pain and pain in the back of the head. Like severe, no relief and nauseating severe. I immediately panicked and ripped off all my clothes looking for a rash which I did not have. I had no fever and google was all like, "Well, these are the symptoms of meningytis sometimes and sometimes they're not. Whatevs, sick girl." I took 400mg of ibuprofen and then another 400 a half hour later and was eventually able to go to sleep. Today, I feel really tired and my neck feels like it used to hurt, but it doesn't really hurt now. I didn't go to work today, both because I feel puny and because somebody has to watch Ems.

Josh is making me go to the doctor this afternoon. Let me tell you how much I'm gonna love paying 75 dollars for some dude to kindly tell me he has no idea what happened but I seem to be okay now. I wish I could get people to pay me 75 dollars for stating the fricking obvious. "You don't feel good, so something's clearly wrong, but heck if I know what it is. You should start taking birth control again. I get kickbacks."

Pity me and pet me, my friends. I am frustrated as fuck.

Gaaaaah.
Yes, i, too would love a job like that. C'mon in! I'll tell you you're sick but really, nothing to be done, ah ha, have a sample!

I got the same sort of dumb-assery when i was having incredibly bad pain in my side, had a high fever and was throwing up. In the ER, blah blah, no, your appendix is fine, we think maybe a uterine infection, see ya. I'm like - how? what? why? And they're all - no clue! C'mon, you're fine, go home.

I now know - gall stones! Yay.

*hugs*

Feel better, bb.

Thank you! *hugs*

My mom is a nurse, and I know that lots of doctors and nurses are doing good work and helping people, but it's just so frustrating not to *know* for sure what's wrong. I am so ready for Star Trek technology. LOL

Man, right there with you - where's Dr. House when you need him?

My parents were both 'medical' people too, so we got the good *and* the ugly at dinner every night. Always fun times! :)

I was reading nursing journals as a kid and looking at pictures of scabrous wounds LOL. Good times. :)

OH yes, heeee! My dad loved to tell tales of the operating room, and brought home pictures of a guy's feet that had been run under a lawn mower. And then mom with her stories of 'the first time i saw gas gangrene'.....

Awesome dinner conversations!

LOL

I know exactly what you're talking about. :)

At least Emma is spared those sorts of conversations. The worst thing she hears about is horrible student papers. Which, granted, are horrible.

I rather liked it. And i think it gave me a bit of a leg-up, really, as not much stuff makes me 'swoon' or feel like i want to heave or anything.

Except, you know, for bad prose.

I liked it too LOL but Emma's a little more squeamish than I am.

I, with absolutely no medical training, proscribe a nice warm cuppa tea. Likelihood it will do no harm, and holding a warm mug forces some relaxation.

Hope both of you are feeling better *hugs*

I'm really sorry you (plural) are sick! But, hey, maybe they WILL have a clue and will give you stuff that actually makes you feel better. Stranger things have happened.

*pets* Maybe you slept on it wrong or clenched it in your sleep? I nearly dislocated my shoulder once while having a nightmare; it's amazing what you can do to yourself while you sleep---especially if you have some stress-triggered TMJ or something like that.

The doctor assures me I do not have meningytis nor did I have a stroke. LOL Apparently, a tension headache can really hurt fucking bad. And, yeah, TMJ probably did have something to do with it.

*pets the lunabee* I feel your annoyance. the medical institution and the medical insurance institution (assuming you have it, I don't & thats a whole nother can of worms) is such a frustrating, annoying, stroke inducing ..... ((hugs))

hmmmm that doesn't induce calm does it. (i just finished re-reading "paws of fury", sigh, it still leaves me warm & happy).

Fic Rec! GenkaiFan who wrote the fun "poison pen" (wherein harry gets annoyed at the prophet & strikes back with the pen) have started a new story, only 2 chapters but I'm already loving it as its set at the Tower of London. This author is a steady poster & a track record of finishing fic so I feel safe rec'ing a WIP.
