these babies are unfinished. Why do I get sucked into [livejournal.com profile] hpstoryfinders and start reading stories without checking to see if they're finished yet? It's like a disease. I am not a fan of WIPs. I cannot stand to check back and see every five minutes if a fic is done, and it never is. I want instant gratification!!!! And yet, I enjoyed these stories enough that I'll check back in a year or so and see if they ever got finished. Plus, I'll get the joy of reading them again from the beginning.

The Marriage Stone by Josephine Darcy and its AU Ending by Lynne; HP; Harry/Snape; clearly of epic length; Adult
The AU Ending was last updated in July which leads me to believe that this one will be eventually finished; the author is averaging a month or two in between updates. I'm gonna be straight with y'all and totally admit that this story is one of those "Harry is the most magical king of the cosmos who ever did live OMG his power and sagey goodness yo" kinda stories. Which I should hate on principle, but somehow in HP instead end up eating like bacon--center cut, sugar-cured, crispy yummo pig. So bad. So good. Anyway, I think what draws me to Josephine's story is that the magical worldbuilding is awesome. I love the way politics and magic itself take a forefront, and the writing is compelling. The AU sequel is at first extremely jarring. The writing style differs greatly initially, and I almost gave up reading it. But after a handful of chapters, Lynne got her stride, and I found myself enjoying her take on the universe Josephine Darcy created. I don't think the quality of the AU is as high as the original, but I really appreciate that someone else stepped in and continued the story.

Child of Four by Sarini; HP; Harry/Draco; Adult
I ain't even gonna lie. I don't remember what the hell this is about. I liked it enough to bookmark and read 74 chapters of it. It's an AU where Harry is sorted into Slytherin. I always like those. I seem to remember there's a lot of commentary about Hogwarts and other canon events that had me going, "Story is right! Story makes sense! Canon has problems!"

Stranger in a Too Familiar Land by Fryeheart; HP; Harry gen
I really like this story. I want it to be updated soon. :) After defeating Voldemort and on the verge of death himself, Harry is drawn into a parallel universe where people he lost in his world still live, including his parents and the siblings he would apparently have had had they lived. This fic is only 11 chapters long, but they're nice and meaty with a resourceful Harry who uses everything he learned in his universe to survive in this one.
