So, I was driving along, wondering what Star Lord thinks of Jimmy Eat World,

and I hit a deer.

I have never hit a deer, and I've lived in the rural South my whole life. In fact, I don't think I've ever hit anything except a garbage can that rolled into the middle of the street with a gust of wind (well, and I side-swiped a pylon at the bank once going through the drive through years ago; Emma loves to tell that story). I wasn't hurt, the car only appears to be dented on the front right bumper (didn't even shatter the headlight), and hopefully it won't be too expensive to fix.

But I am keyed the hell up now, my friends. I was on the way to pick up Ems from her track meet, and it was dark, and nothing even remotely horrible happened to me or to the car, and yet, I am full of sick adrenaline.

OMG, that is terrifying! I'm glad you're okay! I once nearly hit a deer--no actual contact--but I was pretty shaky for a while afterwards. That was when I was still learning to drive, although I had the advantage of being in a huge Suburban.

Me too. And I'm so glad the kids weren't in the car; even though nothing really happened, I would have freaked out even more if they'd been with me.

We used to have a Suburban, and it was glorious to feel as if I was in tank. Not so glorious to fill it with gas. LOL

Ack! Oh no! That's never a good day. Everyone in my family's hit a deer at this point, though my dad really pressed his luck by not hitting one until he was nearly 60. XD Sounds like you might not even need to involve the insurance people; fingers crossed for that. (In my state, hitting a deer is a no-fault, so it's not much of a ding on the record, but I hear horror stories sometimes.)

Josh talked to the insurance rep today, but forgot to ask if/how it would affect our premiums. We're waiting until next month to file a claim, so I'll be sure to ask before we do.
