Firefly fic recs:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/angelgazing/97293.html?view=730893#t730893 "A Lacking in Plastic" by [livejournal.com profile] angelgazing BDM spoilers. I really can say very little about this without giving away too much of the movie, but it's just a lovely story.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/ff_fanfic/100819.html?#cutid1 "Parallel Lives (Five Malcolm Reynolds that Never Were" by [livejournal.com profile] forodwaith On the morning of the last day of the battle for Serenity Valley, Malcolm Reynolds got up to piss and took a bullet in the gut. He died just before he'd seen too much. He died with a purpose and in the certainty that God was waiting for him, ready to count the fall of one browncoat like that of each sparrow. He died stinking of shit and grunting in pain, but still in possession of the vital illusion that the 'verse cared. All his other selves envy him that.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/ff_fanfic/106484.html?view=358388#t358388 "Overlap" by [livejournal.com profile] lunadatura Simon/Inara Inara swims in long, slow loops through the dark water. As it ripples and eddies over her skin, the surface of the black lake blossoms with alien light. It surrounds her with color, pure and lurid as a stained glass window: leaf green, saffron, electric blue. This is a biological oddity of the lake. It can be quantified and explained, I know it: there are microscopic organisms in the water, which respond to pressure by emitting a phosphorescent discharge. But the spectacle has crippled my ability to rationalize and diagnose, and in my secret heart, I truly believe that this iridescent flow of sparks comes from Inara – that she is blessing the lake with her radiance.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/deepredbelle/137412.html "Mythologies" by [livejournal.com profile] deepredbelle Simon has a memory about River. This reads like a prose poem. It's beautiful and vaguely disturbing. River probes at the edges of her cut, crinkling her nose. Purple crescents are lodged beneath her fingernails like quartered blood moons. Red always seems so personal.

And I know everyone's seen this by now, but The article in which George Takei comes out.

George Takei is in love with a guy named Brad? Well that's awesome.

Also cool to read bits of the article aloud in my Sulu-voice, particularly that part about being in the Japanese internment camp in Arkansas--my home stomping ground.

Please do a re-enactment of your original reading for me when I see you tomorrow. LOL

Yeah, Takei has been a very important political activist for Japanese Americans. The very first "serious" paper I did was about Star Trek and racism. I can't remember if it was Takei or his father, but one of them was instrumental in finally getting the US gov to pay reparations to those interred.

You know the author of "Overlap" wrote a sequel to it, right?

(P.S. You might wanna cut off the ?view=blahblahblah when you post links for recs 'cause those links jump down to your comment rather than just bringing the reader to the top of the fic.)

Thanks so much for the coding tip. I did not know that would do that.

And yes, I do know that she wrote a sequel. I haven't been able to read it yet, though, unfortunately. After I do, I'm going to edit this post to add the sequel.

"Offering" (the sequel) is really beautiful. I expect you'll like it a lot.

See, I was gonna reply to this comment with "Yes, it is lovely and I do like it," but s/he's posted another bit of the story already and I haven't even gotten to this one yet. *head desk*
