Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Friday, Midday Music on NPR was playing sci-fi and fantasy music in honor of Dragon Con, so I got to rock out to the Imperial March when I was heading to town to shop. :)
I took Emma shopping yesterday for more track clothes (she has finally reached the point where she really needs to wear a sports bra), and I bought us both Harry Potter and Cursed Child.
Clearly, JKR and Co. are reading fanfic. LOL There's absolutely no reason in canon to make Albus and Scorpius BFF, but I am so glad they did so. I loved their friendship. I loved the time travel trope and the alternate universe trope. And the villain in disguise trope. But especially the alternate universe trope. How much fun are we going to have writing Ron married to Padma and Hermione turned into the worst caricature of herself? Or the horror of a world ruled by Voldemort with a corrupt Cedric Diggory at his side? Or Ron, Hermione and Severus stuck in the Shrieking Shack and mourning Harry?
I cannot tell you how much I love that the safety of the universe hinges on Neville Longbottom's life. *stars in eyes*
I like that Harry is not a perfect parent (well, who is?). Everyone struggles with parenting, but he had zero role models as a child for appropriate parenting, and "just do the opposite of what the Dursleys did" doesn't necessarily equal parenting success. That moment where he snaps at Albus really struck me in the heart because I've said things I didn't mean to my kids before (although nothing quite on that order), and it's like it comes out of your mouth without your permission, like you're standing beside yourself and watching yourself do it in growing horror.
I love the way the play explores how much constant scrutiny they're all still under and how little any of them likes it.
I like the way the title fits so many of the characters: Harry, cursed to live under the stairs, believed to be a curse by the Dursleys; Albus who thinks himself cursed to be Harry's child; Scorpius, rumored to be the cursed child of Voldemort; Delphi, the actual cursed child of Voldemort; Cedric, the child cursed to die (by magic called a curse); Voldemort, the cursed child who could destroy them all.
On the whole, this was a really solid story. I think watching the play would add oodles and oodles of awesomeness to it. Needs morecowbell Neville and Luna, though. LOL
I know several of you read and reviewed it, but I can't remember who. Link me up?
