Last week's episode was so good. I loved seeing them all work together for a common purpose again. Loved Maggie's leadership, loved Edith stepping up and recruiting behind the scenes. So the high of last week is definitely why I was so disappointed in this week's episode.

To be sure, it had its high points. Richard struggling to make himself heard in the Kingdom and developing the plan to get Carol hurt or killed to make his point was really interesting. While I don't agree with him that manufacturing the situation is the way to go, I do agree that Ezekiel is going to have to lose someone close to him to agree to participate in Rick's plan. My money's on the teenager. Rick wholeheartedly believing that Gabriel is innocent and their conversation at the end was really heartwarming. The Darryl and Carol reunion was worth the price of admission on its own. I love that he couldn't tell her the truth; that little bit of commonality between him and Morgan was well done. I just feel so badly for Carol and Morgan. The narrative the show wants to tell is going to insist that they give up their principles and fight, and I hate that for them. They both want something better and different, and I wonder if fighting this fight is going to kill them. I even loved Rick's lunatic grin when he sees the Trash Heap crowd. You gotta love a guy who looks at a murderous throng and thinks he's found some new best friends.

But, I swanee, the Trash Heap people are weird, and not in a logical way that makes sense. It's only been a couple years or so since the apocalypse. Civilization hasn't eroded to the point that anyone should have lost language yet. Josh and I kept calling them the Morlocks. Also, the whole let's make a deal with you for your help part. Getting people shit is what they're trying to get out of with the Saviors. Why recreate that problem with these new weirdos? And there's too many unanswered questions. Is the Pinhead walker a pet? Do they think walkers are people? Was Gabriel about to become the next Wilson? Just who are they allying with?

Rather than bringing in this new group, I wish they'd go back to the female colony Tara discovered. I mean, they're going to have to go there to procure the weapons, but I wish they'd sidestepped the Trash Heap altogether.
