1. Some thoughts on Westworld rewatch:

I am even more intrigued about the data and what Delos wants to use the data for. I've seen some of these episodes three times now, and each time I catch how they don't quite say how they want to use the data; Josh's money is on using the hosts as weapons.

I also caught an aside between William and Logan where Logan says that nobody knows who the partner who died was or what he looked like. The first time around, I didn't realize that was in the thirty years ago timeline; so from the beginning, Arnold's presence was scrubbed from records. I don't quite understand how that was accomplished though. Ford and Arnold weren't alone in the park; there were *some* techs there. I also don't know whether Arnold kept his presence out of records or if Ford scrubbed him; both require a great deal of power and resources. Ford implies that he made Bernard not too longish after Arnold's death which further complicates the issue.

2. We watched the first two episodes of Luke Cage.

One thing that confused me. Why does Luke say he's a fugitive? I don't remember him being a fugitive at the end of Jessica Jones. I remember him wanting to get the hell away from Jessica and from being possessed by Kilgrave, and I remember his bar being exploded, but I don't remember him being wanted by the law. Plus, he's using his real name in Harlem and to the cops which is not a fugitive move.

Very much liking the show so far. Love the cast. Misty is fantastic. I love that she's from the area and that rather than escaping, she's come back to make it a better place. She's also a good object lesson for how communities being policed by community members rather than outsiders is more successful.

Love the club set up and the way it allows "live" music. I don't really enjoy most jazz personally, but it is really working for me as a score and backdrop for this show.

Poor Pops. I felt like he had a target on his back from pretty much the moment I saw him. I was sorry to be right.

Loved Luke protecting the kid. I may have teared up and sniffled some at that point.

Cottonmouth reminds me a lot of Avon Barksdale from The Wire--does horrible things but believes in a code and values loyalty. You don't break your word, and you play the game a certain way, and you take care of your own.

Can't wait to see what happens next.

3. Walking Dead is so frustrating!

I am so tired of Rick. His little cat and mouse game with Negan was so stupid especially since I knew it wasn't going to end, that Negan was going to get away since there's four more episodes this season. I did cheer when Rick set Lucille on fire; hopefully that's the end of Lucille. Also, as much as Jadis gets on my nerves, I did like Negan waking up in her car with her gun to his head.

I can't believe this is the first we're seeing of an attempt to weaponize walker blood. That makes a lot of sense.

I am so tired of Tara being so gungho about killing Dwight when she was Dwight. Did she forget the Governor? IDK

Also really tired of the nihilist vision of this show where Gabriel just has to be shown that nothing really good can happen to anyone.

Also really glad that Maggie finally got the point that if they just take people's shit then they're the same as the Saviors.

Academia, represent! Medieval scholars saving the world post-apocalypse!! The humanities are important!

Simon is going to be a huge problem, but I think Negan is going to take him out for countermanding his orders.

I can't believe there's going to be another season of this. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Season 2 isn't out yet, so I did a double-take like, "How have you seen the first 2 episodes already?" and then I realized you meant the first season :)

That's so funny, because I see your tv posts all the time and think, "Wow, you have a lot more free time to watch tv than I do," because I can barely keep up with 1-2 weekly shows. (I do tend to marathon stuff like the Netflix drops to avoid getting spoiled -- though with JJ S1 I think I also really wanted to know how it turned out.)

Why does Luke say he's a fugitive?

I think there's a flashback episode of Luke Cage that explains that statement.

I loved that medieval studies prof with her glasses and her pearl earrings. So much heart for her. Otherwise, yeah, boring. Can't someone kill Negan, like ever?

As for Luke Cage -- that's not his real name. His real name is Carl Lucas. And yes, he seems to be hiding in plain site, with his name in headlights.

Yeah, IIRC him being on the run predates Jessica Jones, and is part of why he didn't go back to Harlem first.

Misty only gets better and better. By the end I thought she was almost a co-lead on the show. The music is also outstanding. Be sure to watch for an amazing sequence intercut with Jidenna singing "Long Live the Chief" live, opening the fifth ep. I've used it to get people to watch the show. A few flashback eps have Very Unfortunate Beardage and the back half gets draggy, but Colter, Simone Missick and Alfre Woodard are all stunning. And the setting is really well-known and feels lived-in.

also Michael Colter is one of the most gorgeous men I've ever seen dear God

I can't believe this is the first we're seeing of an attempt to weaponize walker blood. That makes a lot of sense.

Except it doesn't actually make sense at all, because we've seen people get covered by Walker blood all along, often while wounded, and you couldn't even shoot one at close range without aerosolizing their blood and breathing it in. And that's never been a problem before, which I was willing to accept with as good grace as I can manage so long as we're just handwaving the biology of infectious diseases. But to suddenly make it a problem only now really retcons the mythos and pisses me off.

But yes, academics represent! It's high time for that storyline, because Georgie's plan is pretty much the heart of my own zombie apocalypse plan. Except mine also involves goats.

Gabriel's illness bothers me less, actually. A decomposing corpse might be incubating all kinds of nasty diseases, particularly in the bowels.

I really enjoyed the first half of Luke Cage. The second half has Problems I would LOVE to discuss with you when you get there.
