1.
The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I absolutely love this book.
The elderly protagonist Iris interweaves narrative about her life as an old woman with telling her life story; we also get newspaper and magazine articles about her family and chapters of a book called The Blind Assassin that her sister wrote.
I don't want to spoil much of what happens because one of the joys of this book is gradually discovering what exactly is going on beneath the surface of the story that Iris tells. Atwood is such a master plotter; at first you don't realize there's anything to piece together, any mystery to figure out, but all the disparate threads of the narrative start winding together in such a delicious way toward the end.
Very centered in place, very much about Canada and Canadian history, very much about the upper-crust in Canada from WWI-WWII.
As always, exquisite use of language and primary focus on women.
Cannot recommend enough.

2. Walking Dead Finale
It's been so long since I watched and since I wrote down my notes during the episode that I don't really remember what I wanted to say. LOL
I do remember that I really dig Sadiq. I am glad that Rick is able to make peace with him, and I really like that Sadiq saying, "All that's left of the people we lose are their ideas," finally got through to Rick.
I had gotten very bored with Morgan losing his mind, so I have to admit I'm glad he's switched to the other show. I did like him calling out Rick on breaking his word and him saying that they were worse than they used to be.
I cannot tell you how much shouting and squealing and fist-pumping was going on in my house when Eugene came through and borked all the guns. That was magnificent.
Love all the communities finally working together to rebuild.
I hope Dwight finds Sherie.
If Jadis joins their group, she better go by Ann and start speaking in full sentences.
Maggie, Jesus, and Daryl plotting against Rick and Michonne is weird. The music is all sinister, and Maggie sounds like she's advocating killing Rick and Michonne which is stupid and out of character.

Date: 2018-05-20 12:18 am (UTC)I haven't read any Atwood since I was at university. I remember loving The Edible Woman, but that was soooo long ago.
