I think Bucky knows what Steve is going to do at the end. I think they talked about it before Steve left. Why else would Bucky hug a guy who's only going to be gone for 5 seconds and tell him he's going to miss him? That also explains why he sends Sam forward to Steve on the bench rather than rushing forward himself. He knows Steve is going to pass the mantle to Sam because they've already talked about it and how he's going to bring back an intact shield with him since Thanos chewed his up.

What do y'all think?

That big Q&A with the Russos seems to indicate they either wrote the scene, or maybe even filmed it but cut it for time/suspense. I actually kind of like Bucky just knowing without Steve even having to tell him, though.

I would love to see that scene but it would have made the movie too long; it was already really long as it is. LOL

I agree completely -- the way Bucky hangs back when he, not Sam, is Steve's lifelong friend, suggests that he was in on it all along. Sebastian Stan's expressions were subtle but, I thought, very clear. Of course, I suspect that Bucky may even have made a good surmise about Steve being with Peggy, too, having been around when that was starting.

That's the only thing that makes him not freaking out or seeming worried at all make sense.

I think Bucky knows that if Steve returns Stones in the correct order, he could stop his journey in 1970 or even earlier and ride forward the usual way and then hop some sort of multidimensional portal. Which, is how the Pym Particles sort of worked, by Quantum placket?

Since the multiverse contains an infinity of Peggys, that some Steves get to be happy with her doesn't negate Peggy's husband recounted in the Smithsonian Exhibit. Some of the Steves probably get to be a second husband.

I do love all the possibilities for AUs that this movie creates. I want the AU where Thor doesn't have his hammer when the Dark Elves come or the AU where somehow being accosted by a rabbit allows Jane to save Frigga, etc.
