1. Kids lit roundup for May:
Jessica's Box by Peter Carnavas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I really like this. Jessica is worried about making friends at school. She brings all sorts of things in her box--a stuffed animal, cupcakes, her dog--and none of them help her until she finds just the right thing to put in her box. I also really like that while Jessica is using a wheelchair, the story has nothing to do with that at all and doesn't even mention it. She's just a kid trying to make friends, not the kid using a wheelchair who's trying to make friends.

The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the traditional text, so nothing new there, but the illustrations are so utterly charming. Santa is visiting a wee mouse family who is sleeping in sardine tins. My daughter's favorite illustration is of baby mouse going potty on a wee thimble (I think). It's adorable.

Troll Country by James Marshall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a big favorite in our house. Elsie Fay's mother had an encounter with a troll as a girl, and now Elsie Fay is having an encounter of her own. It's a very cute story about girls being clever.

No More Monsters for Me! by Peggy Parish
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is really cute. A little girl brings a monster home and discovers that he doesn't make such a great pet.

I'm a Frog! by Mo Willems
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I think this is my favorite of the Mo Willems so far. Piggie is pretending to be a frog, and Gerald is deeply confused. LOL

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Naughty rabbits, exquisite drawings. A classic for a reason.

Xander's Panda Party by Linda Sue Park
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Really great artwork. Poetry that scans the whole poem through! Delightful message of inclusion and inter-species friendship. Lots of multi-syllable words to challenge the budding reader.

Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
A classic. Both of my girls have really enjoyed this one.

Farts in the Wild: A Spotter's Guide by H.W. Smeldit
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It makes noise! LOL
This is very silly, but scatological humor tops the hierarchy in this house, so it gets lots of rotation.

2.
esteefee posted pictures of the beautiful bowls she made for me and others.
3. Good Omens continues to satisfy. I absolutely adore Jon Hamm as smarmy, angelic bureaucrat. Him grabbing the Mrs. Beeton and calls it pornography is the best moment of this episode for me. Can't wait to watch the next one.
