1. I had such a great birthday. Thank you all for the wonderful wishes and birthday thoughts. You made me smile. For posterity, the birthday haul: a silver necklace with a pearl pendant (pearl is my birthstone and my favorite "gemstone"), a gift certificate to the spa (which I am using for their package deal--a massage, a facial, a pedicure, and a manicure), a gift certificate to Amazon, the Broken Earth trilogy (which is funny given that I was just talking with
forestofglory about that series), a Soda Stream machine, some notebooks (my weakness), and several cards. One of my colleagues in the music department texted me a recording of him playing me happy birthday on the sax. Good stuff. I am Pleased.

Lucifer Episode 5
Man, I continue to just love Eve. I really hope she doesn't end up being evil (is Eve the etymological root of evil?) or have a hidden agenda. I really want her to be who she seems to be. Amenadiel brings up that Lucifer did kill Cain, her son, and that she might want revenge, but she says that Cain got what he deserved. Amenadiel also brings up that maybe Eve won't be able to get back into heaven now that she's left. Eve is just so charming; I love her interactions with Ella and with Chloe and even with Lucifer.
"I expire erect." LOL
Chloe pulling a Steve Rogers and jumping on Lucy to protect him gets me in the feels, hard.
As does Amenadiel telling Chloe that her dad is proud of her. *sniffles*
I also really love that Chloe just wants Lucifer to be happy even if that isn't with her.
Lucifer Episode 6
And we have a few months time skip:
Lucifer trying to compartmentalize the two sides of his life and failing is really interesting. He's torn between two women who represent two different parts of himself, and he loves them equally. I think Eve is right that he's pretending but wrong that his time with Chloe is when he's pretending. I don't think he's pretending with Eve, exactly, but I think that he's not the same snake in the garden that she expects and that he's trying to live up to the ideal she has of him.
Eve continues to be deeply charming. I mean, she instantly wins over Maze. I love her consistently feminist message, that she had to figure out who she is and what she wants independently of Adam. She also brings up Lilith for the first time in this episode; Eve's mention coupled with Maze's mommy issues at never being loved by Lilith leads me to suspect that she's going to turn up. I think I will very much like it if the evil they bring into the world ala the prophecy is not something bad Eve does or makes Lucifer do but rather that Lilith returns to earth. I do not want Eve to be a villain.
I am deeply concerned about Linda and the baby. Amenadiel protects them this time, but I think his angel sister's appearance (I never could understand her name; sometimes it sounded like Remiel and sometimes like Rabbiel) portends more to come. I really hope that Amenadiel gets the chance to explain why he bailed on her for Lamaze.
I know they are playing Maze never leaving Linda's side for laughs, but I think Linda is going to be grateful for that. I suspect that the heavenly host are going to try to grab the baby and Maze having no boundaries is what is going to save her. I love Linda explicitly telling her that she will always be a part of Linda's family.
I feel so badly for Lucifer in this episode. He is so guilty about the officer's death, and Dan is so harsh in his condemnation. I really want a reconciliation between Dan and Lucifer to happen in this season. Dan's animosity really hurts me.
And Lucifer crosses to the dark side. Wow.
Also, thank you, Netflix, for all this glorious partial nudity.

The conversation I was having with Forest was about how it contains child harm, so I'm hoping I can get through it.

Date: 2019-06-21 12:34 am (UTC)Well, the good news is that my husband also wants to read it, so if it ends up being to fraught for me, he will enjoy it. :)

Date: 2019-06-21 12:01 am (UTC)I saw this headline and thought of you. I know you like Good Omens. I haven't watched it or ever read it, do you think I should read the book first?
More than 20,000 Christians sign petition demanding that Netflix cancel 'blasphemous' Good Omens - even though the show is on Amazon Prime.

Date: 2019-06-21 12:36 am (UTC)Oh that article. *dies* Sounds about right for that population.
I think you should read the book first; I actually enjoy the miniseries more than the book, and I think it might be a let down to read it after watching it. I also think I appreciated the miniseries more by having the knowledge from the book (more backstory for characters, etc that couldn't be incorporated). Knowing how the book goes also really made me appreciate the ways in which they changed the show. But YMMV
