Let's have some Star Trek meme.

The original questions ask what crew positions you would and would not like to fill, but I'm going to extend it to the whole world of employment.

What job would you love to have in the Trek verse?
What job would you avoid?
What jobs that don't exist now would exist in that universe? Bonus points for coming up with the coolest job ideas.

I absolutely love that the food service industry is still a thing in Trek despite replicators. I bet there's a whole group of people who say they can taste the difference between replicated and naturally grown food and a culture of food snobbery in those who prefer naturally grown and prepared food.

It's hard for me to imagine being anything other than some kind of educator, so I suspect I'd be doing a version of the thing I'm already doing in the Star Trek universe.

I want to live out my own coffee shop slash book store au! Probably not on a ship, but someplace like DS9 where they have shops.

I would avoid wearing a red shirt at all cost.

Do book stores and libraries still exist?

And waiters seem more like entertainers / hosts. You go for the atmosphere, rather than someone bringing you something from the replicator that you could've fetched yourself. Or they're connoisseurs who know you so well they can find something - from some planet or other - that would suit your tastes or mood just perfectly at that time.

I know from Jake that there are still writers! And in the Federation everyone gets their mincome so they don't have to work. I don't know what science fiction looks like when you're already living in Star Trek but I would do that, or lots of interspecies romance novels.

I just saw a post about that on tumblr: https://liz-squids.tumblr.com/post/612516442319060992/aqueerkettleofish-mermaidelephant

If we were in the Star Trek universe and I didn't have to worry about health care, I would probably be a novelist because I wouldn't have to worry about money!

Also I'd be a hobbyist baker and cook and I'd be inviting people from all over to come to try out my holonovels and eat with me.

Are you watching Picard? Naturally grown food is definitely a thing.

What job would you love to have in the Trek verse?

I would be a captain. I like to travel and explore.

What job would you avoid?

Security, we all know they don't last long. LOL

Climate and weather control.

Yes, no one has invented anything to do the climate/weather thing.

As for what job I'd *love* to have in the Trek universe: I am a commsworker born and trained. Communications officer aboard a starship or space station is my dream job, and I mean that literally as well as figuratively. Give me gamma shift (or occasionally beta shift, because everyone needs a night off here and there) on a reasonably busy ship or station, give me a crew intending to stay together, and I am a happy woman.

As for which job I wouldn't want, I never want to be in command for any length of time beyond some emergency that forces the issue. I'm not wired for that. I'm a specialist, and I know it.

Re replicators: I remember the O'Briens surprising each other in one episode, because Keiko's family were replicator people and Miles's mother was a from-scratch cook. Frankly, I'm with Miles for the important things.

Nursing! I would love to serve as a nurse aboard a Federation Starship.

I don't want to serve anywhere but sickbay. Not command or engineering or security. Nursing is what I do best. (Though science officer would be a close second choice. I love science.)

I was so bitterly disappointed as a child to learn that I could not be Captain Kirk when I grew up. My dream job is definitely Starfleet captain! And I already have my own Spock (Hi, Gwyd!), so I am all set on that score.

I would definitely avoid being promoted past that, though. Who wants to give up actually getting out there in the universe to explore and stuff?

Alternatively, I think I would also be excellent at designing immersive holostories. That would be a really cool job of the future, too.

even though you can get clothes from replicators there's still a need for tailors, apparently, based on garak's job.
