Let's have some Star Trek meme.
The original questions ask what crew positions you would and would not like to fill, but I'm going to extend it to the whole world of employment.
What job would you love to have in the Trek verse?
What job would you avoid?
What jobs that don't exist now would exist in that universe? Bonus points for coming up with the coolest job ideas.
I absolutely love that the food service industry is still a thing in Trek despite replicators. I bet there's a whole group of people who say they can taste the difference between replicated and naturally grown food and a culture of food snobbery in those who prefer naturally grown and prepared food.
It's hard for me to imagine being anything other than some kind of educator, so I suspect I'd be doing a version of the thing I'm already doing in the Star Trek universe.

Do book stores and libraries still exist?

Date: 2020-03-16 12:15 am (UTC)I think libraries exist but that they are only of antiquities and that they're really like museums for if you want to see the actual artifact. I think all information is digitally available.
I think people write and sell books but digitally. I think there is an old book market for collectors. I think there's also probably some artisans making books as art objects or as a nod to tradition but probably on the lines of illuminated manuscripts or decorated scrolls rather than the normal paper book we're used to.

I don't know what science fiction looks like when you're already living in Star Trek but I would do that, or lots of interspecies romance novels.

It would be really interesting to see what science fiction looks like when you're already living in our conception of science fiction. I suspect we can't even imagine what pushing that envelope would be like.
I bet there's lots of journalistic writing as well.

What job would you avoid?
Security, we all know they don't last long. LOL

Climate and weather control.

Date: 2020-03-16 12:21 am (UTC)Climate and weather control. I remember that was a plot point in one of the Trek episodes that the fledging Q's parents were killed in a freak weather accident that should have been taken care of by the weather system.

Date: 2020-03-15 07:51 pm (UTC)As for which job I wouldn't want, I never want to be in command for any length of time beyond some emergency that forces the issue. I'm not wired for that. I'm a specialist, and I know it.
Re replicators: I remember the O'Briens surprising each other in one episode, because Keiko's family were replicator people and Miles's mother was a from-scratch cook. Frankly, I'm with Miles for the important things.

Date: 2020-03-16 01:13 am (UTC)I don't want to serve anywhere but sickbay. Not command or engineering or security. Nursing is what I do best. (Though science officer would be a close second choice. I love science.)

Date: 2020-03-16 09:52 am (UTC)I would definitely avoid being promoted past that, though. Who wants to give up actually getting out there in the universe to explore and stuff?
Alternatively, I think I would also be excellent at designing immersive holostories. That would be a really cool job of the future, too.
