Again, rather than a blow-by-blow of each episode, I'm going to post general impressions.
I had no idea that Claire plays such a big role in the show. I love her, and I love how amused she is at both Colleen and Danny.
I love the way that Danny and Colleen's relationship is progressing. I love that she grows to trust him. I love that he buys her building and just takes care of the problem that way. I love that Colleen is playing the part traditionally reserved for the stoic dude. I know from watching The Defenders that it eventually ends up okay, but I do not like Colleen's mysterious friend showing up; she seems very honest, and I don't like the implication that she's lying to Danny or not what she seems. Also don't want a love triangle.
Danny did have a friend in Kun Lun (Davos). Yay! So he left Kun Lun, probably without permission. Interesting. Love Danny going to Karen and circumventing the board. I am less interested in his typical hero arc of having to decide whether or not to kill people; in my opinion, more villains should be killed than are killed in these superhero shows, and I get bored with that story arc.
Ward is something else in this set of episodes. He's spiralling out of control, and it's hard to blame him. He's constantly watched and controlled by his father. Attributing his embezzling and addiction to that relationship (creating a way to escape in both) makes perfect sense to me and makes me feel for him. His dad has also isolated him; I guess at first neither Joy nor Ward knew their dad was alive, but at some point the Hand must have realized that having a living person on the inside of Rand would be key and also realized that Ward would be more easy to manipulate than Joy. So that puts a division between him and Joy (Joy says that at some point something changed between them and she has never been able to figure out why) and also makes him responsible for her survival (he can't tell her or she dies). It also makes this horrible situation where Ward can never explain himself to her because his dad won't explain to him and all his successes are actually his dad's rather than any choices he's making. Ward's descent into withdrawal and his willingness to hurt himself to get more drugs is really painful to watch and some damn good acting. And that smile on his face after he kills his dad. *shivers* And then because he's not a nice person even if I do empathize with him, he lets Danny take the blame for Harold's death.
I do not like the Spider Woman's fight with Danny; I mean, I get that they want to show that even though he's taken a vow of chastity, he's not going to be seduced to the dark side. I also think this episode was important to show Danny that the Hand and Madame Gao have no honor and are not going to play by any set of rules.
I have forgotten most of the Defenders, so I don't remember what Gao's deal is. I know she and the other main leaders of the Hand are super old, and I think they all originally come from Kun Lun. I don't mind being spoiled on those points because I'm pretty sure it was in the Defenders; I just don't remember it. LOL
Harold is just something else. Damn. He kills those guys and chops off his own finger. Wow. I'm going to miss him. Unless he really is a zombie and will rise later from the pond. LOL
The trip to China is ridiculous. Like truly ridiculous. It makes no sense and is stupid, but so far, it's the only part of the show that has been a road too far for me. LOL
Man, I love Joy. I love that she's going to get their jobs back with the blackmail evidence she had Jessica! collect. Nobody ever mentions her in fic summaries or lists of characters, so I'm worried that something is going to happen to her. :(
Can't wait for more!

Date: 2020-04-28 02:43 pm (UTC)It does have good character moments.
And I always love the fight scenes; they really showcase the physicality of the actors, and I like that a lot.

Date: 2020-04-28 02:36 am (UTC)One of the things that made me saddest about the Netflix shows being chopped is I guess we won't see these actors in these roles again (altho supposedly Ritter and Cox were sounded out) -- Jessica Henwick was just amazing, even when she didn't have a lot to work with.
