Mostly Westworld

1. Y'all, kids are fucking weird. Adorable, but fucking weird.
Yesterday, Fiona found a little chunk of wood on our walk, started calling it Eliza, and then proceeded to play with it for hours, talking to it as if it was sentient and generally being an A+ adorable weirdo.
Eliza now resides on the front porch with the rocks and snail shells she magpies up.
This is not even a cool looking piece of wood. It's not even a piece of tree branch or anything. It is the most nondescript little hunk of plywood.
*dies*
2. Season three of Westworld ended several weeks ago, and I keep forgetting to type up my extremely positive reactions. No more!
I love this idea of people as outliers that create chaos and need to be controlled. Even if William is not the big damn hero as he imagines, his outlier status validates that narrative he's created about himself to some degree. And then, of course, the reveal of what really happened in Caleb's past and the way he'd been turned into an operative destroys the narrative he's believed about himself.
I love the way that Caleb is an improved version of John Connor because where the Terminator franchise largely fails to recognize the role that Sarah plays--the way it's really about her and John is, frankly, incidental--Westworld is giving Dolores and now Maeve their due. There's something special about Caleb; he's an outlier, but he's nothing without Dolores cluing him in to the truth, and he'd be dead without her and now Maeve at his side. And, honestly, outlier or not, she only picks him because by chance she sees him behave decently once. That's it. That's the sum total of her thinking in choosing Caleb to lead the revolution.
That shot of thousands of people in cryo because they're not biddable, not predictable--there's your dystopia. I suppose that part of the plan is going to be waking them up.
Holy shit that epic fight between Maeve and Dolores! That's what I'm talking about.
Love the scene of Dolores reassembling herself in the warehouse.
"Free will does exist. It's just fucking hard."
"You're all copies of me." Ha! Yes! Damn this show is good.
Charlotte!Dolores is awesome as shit. I love how mad she is. I love that she's going to do her best to burn the world to the ground. And this definitively answers the question of whether William is a host or not; if he was, she wouldn't have to kill him. He's a host now, though. LOL
I love Caleb's criminal friends showing back up. I hope the Marshawn Lynch character is okay. :(
Oh my God that scene with Bernard and his wife. Gina Torres just knocks it out of the park. I cried. A lot.
Incite is a great company name.
I like the reveal that the AI is essentially controlling Sirach, that he's a puppet. I thought he was going to end up being a host, but really, isn't this the same thing?
I am so glad that Dolores and Maeve are finally able to work together at the end and sad that it takes Dolores's death for that to happen. I can't believe she's gone. Wow. :( William!Prime and Dolores!Prime both dead. Damn.
"You're a good friend, Stubbs." "Fuck you, Bernard." LOL
So, now I'm dying to know how long Bernard has been gone to where the others are--years? Is Stubbs recoverable?
I can't wait to find out!

Date: 2020-05-19 09:47 pm (UTC)I'm actually thinking of doing a rock painting activity. I saw in Better Homes and Gardens (which was a gift and not necessarily a subscription I'd have chosen myself) a picnic table, and they'd painted rocks to hold down the napkins. I thought that not only would Fiona enjoy that but also that my mom who entertains outdoors all summer long would enjoy receiving them.

Date: 2020-05-19 09:48 pm (UTC)I did not grow up with access to cable, so I was always jealous of my friends talking about Ren & Stimpy and other TV I had no way of watching. By the time I got access to it, I was way out of the target audience, but the jealousy remains! LOL

Date: 2020-05-20 10:44 pm (UTC)OMG, my second one too. If he's not talking to someone, he's talking to himself (or his toys). And his voice is so fucking loud and the questions, they are never-ending. Excellent but never-ending.
I get a break from him for a couple of days this weekend and I cannot wait. :: weeps with joy :: It's been sooo long.

Date: 2020-05-20 09:04 pm (UTC)I thought that would be a good idea. They were painted really brightly (one was painted like a lemon slice which was cute).
