1. I got a card from
oracne! I love getting mail. :)
2. We are about halfway done with the last season of Avatar and still loving it.
So far, the only thing I haven't cared for on this rewatch is Toph and Katara arguing. Their arguing makes sense, but I don't like that the girls in the group are the ones doing the petty squabbling.
I had forgotten that it takes until almost the end for Zuko to team up with the Aang Gang. I absolutely adore that the show takes a brief detour into "Dawson's Creek" in that beach resort episode. LOL It was a nice way to humanize the Fire Nation Kids, even Azula (although it doesn't redeem her for me). I love the revelation that the Avatar is Zuko's maternal great grandparent; that's just lovely all the way down (and also makes the episode where he turns into a Victorian maiden with the vapors because of his "internal struggle" make a little more sense retrospectively; it's his magic avatar DNA or something LOL).
I just love Iroh more and more. From within a jail cell where he Sarah Connors it up on the sly, he is still reaching out tohis son Zuko in the hopes that he can show him a better path.
I've been thinking about what some people have said about liking and not liking various ships for the show. To be clear, I am totally live and let live for shipping. Give me a good story, and I'll happily read about any ship. I neither OTP nor NOTP. I was thinking about what someone said about not liking Aang/Katara because she behaves motherly towards him (I think it was
musesfool, maybe?), which is a totally valid interpretation! But I realized in one of the last episodes we watched (the one where she and Toph fight because of the pranks) that her being in a maternal role doesn't bother me as far as shipping. I am also an extremely bossy person who could be accused of mothering the people in her life, including her husband, which is probably why that doesn't preclude shipping for me. I am fighting the good fight against my inner bossy bessy, but it is a daily struggle, my friends. I keep hoping the lyrics of that song ("I'm a bitch. I'm a Boss. I'm a bitch, I'm a Boss, and I shine like gloss") will redeem me. I'm not bossy! I'm the Boss! LOL
3. Emma got fed up, and I buzzed her hair for her. It looks cute. Very KStew.
4. I've got a hair appt scheduled for the end of July. My mom has made us all a couple of masks apiece that will be great for when we go back to work, but I don't want to mess any of them up with hair dye. Anybody have any suggestions for something I might be able to rig together just for going to the salon?
5. Fiona's birthday is today. I have a 7 year old. *boggles*

Date: 2020-06-24 05:10 pm (UTC)WRT masks: If you have cotton napkins, optional paper coffee filters, a stapler or binder clips, and hair ties, you can have all the masks you want in just a few minutes apiece!
1. Fold the napkin into thirds, hold it up against your face. If it's WAAAAY below your chil, unfold it and fold it into thirds.
2. Take coffee filter--if one-cup size, open it up and use as-is. If basket-size, fold in half.
3. Tuck it into the inside part of the folded-up napkin.
4. Fold the sides of the napkin until they're about the width of your face.
5. If you're going to staple, staple the top and bottom, being sure to catch the coffee filter. If not, attach a small binder clip to the sides.
6. Staple or binder-clip on a hair tie to each side. If you don't have hair ties, let me know, I HAVE SO MANY HAIR TIES.
There you go! You can change the filter each time so you can wear it a couple of times between washes. I can't do this because I don't have enough hair (and I guess neither does Emma these days!) BUT you can stick a barette into the hair over your ear and attach the elastic to the barrette instead of your ear so your ear doesn't get sore.

Date: 2020-06-24 06:01 pm (UTC)And yes, I was the one who found Katara's mothering too strong to ship it, though it also doesn't help that Aang seems like a really young 12 despite everything he's experienced. The two year difference between them at that age is really hard for me to get over, where it wouldn't be ten years later. *hands*

Date: 2020-06-24 07:03 pm (UTC)I agree with you on the age difference, though. 12 to 14 is a really, really big age gap in terms of maturity.

Date: 2020-06-24 06:24 pm (UTC)I love Katara's mothering, but I wish that someone would thank her for all the work that she is doing instead of just complaining about her!

Date: 2020-06-24 09:43 pm (UTC)I know! She does the hard work of keeping them all together. I cried at the episode where Sokka says how grateful he is for her mothering and that when he thinks of their mom all he can see is Katara's face. OMG, I'm tearing up now just typing it. LOL

Date: 2020-06-24 09:00 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear Emma's hair looks cute buzzed. It's bloody lovely having hair that short but it doesn't suit everyone, me included.

Date: 2020-06-24 09:44 pm (UTC)It does look cute! I've never had mine quite that short, but I love mine in like the shortest pixie you can do. I don't think I would look good buzzed.
I vastly prefer this experiment to the one earlier this summer where she shaved lines in her eyebrows. LOL

Date: 2020-06-25 12:05 pm (UTC)Yay for a hair appointment! My mom got her's cut as soon as they opened and the gal called her. I'm still a little bit leery about being that up-close-and-personal with someone.
Happy belated birthday, Fiona! I hope you enjoyed your cake. *g*

Date: 2020-06-25 09:49 pm (UTC)You should do a streak. It's super easy and looks very cool.
I'm leery about it, too, but if they're going to make us go back to work on campus in August, I don't feel like getting my hair done the week before is anymore risky. *sigh*

Date: 2020-06-26 08:40 pm (UTC)I actually don't think I'd even go if my hair wasn't essentially a mullet. LOL Because it's a pixie growing out, the back is a good 2-3 inches longer than the sides, and it looks alright now that the sides are chin-length but not great.
