lunabee341. gloss wrote me the most wonderful ficlet for Ouida's Moths, and it literally brought me to tears because every day I am so thankful I ended up in the mix with all you amazing people. I know that most of you haven't read the novel and probably won't read it, but I just want you to know that what gloss has done in such a short space is masterful and really clever and makes me deeply, deeply happy.
2. I got a Halloween postcard frommisbegotten (and on a day when I really needed the pick-me-up).
3. I love every single person in this bar. 53 of you answered my poll yesterday, and not a single one of you suggested I keep reading that horrid book. LOL I am taking your advice. I am marking it as read on Goodreads and then saying in my review that I DNF.
4. My most and least comfortable panties are indistinguishable at a glance. After accidentally wearing the least to work on Wednesday, I have thrown them in the trash. Much as life is too short to waste on 800 pages of Ginsberg, it is also too short to waste time digging one's panties out of one's crotch surreptitiously between classes.
5. My Harriet Jacobs article is done and away! My promotion application is done and away! Now the waiting begins for them both.
6. Emma is now scheduled to take the SAT twice this fall, and we have had a come to Jesus about how she has to take more responsibility and step up and not let her anxiety about going away to college put her in a real bind of missing deadlines and etc. I think we both feel better about it now.
7. Holy shit, She-Ra!!!
Okay, so Glimmer just jumped right off the cliff. *sigh* At least in the season finale, she was able to admit that she was wrong, so I'm confident that when she reunites with Beau and Adora that she will not be a power abusing ass anymore. (I mean, I'm the queen so do what I say is never going to be a viable argument with me even in canons with a monarchy.) I did love how Machiavellian she becomes; working with Double Trouble? Wow!
Catra realizing that Scorpia is gone just breaks my heart.
Love every single thing about Scorpia ending up in Brightmoon and being accepted by the other princesses. Also, OMG, her princess power is Force Lightning! That's my girl!!!!!!
Love that Glimmer's dad is alive!!!!
I love Kyle so hard. He's brave. Absolutely love him stepping between Catra and Lonnie (I think is her name? not sure; somebody tell me!). I love that the three of them are getting out and escaping the Fright Zone, and I love that they care about Scorpia.
I am glad that Light Hope was able to be herself again and fight against the corrupt programming she was given before Maura died. Adora was able to set her free and honor the friendship she had with Maura.
So predictions: I suspect that Adora won't have a family to be reunited with; I suspect the Horde wiped it out. I suspect that Hordac will be, if not redeemed, then accepted by the gang by the end of it. I think the end of the season finale implies that the weapon has siphoned away all the magic and the princesses can't use it anymore; I suspect that Adora will find that she is always She-Ra and always able to access the magic even without the sword and that the other princesses will follow suit.
Cannot wait to finish this last season. I am super planning to blow through it because OMG so good.
8. Lovecraft Country blew me away again.
I have got to be honest that I really did not like the visual aesthetics of Ji-Ah's kumiho tails. They look like tarantula legs, and it's horrible. I would like my fox-demon seduction and murder to be sexier, thank you very much. LOL
Other than that, I completely dig this episode even though it is 100% angsty to the max and so very, very sad--from all the atrocities of war to the horror of the child sexual abuse plot line to the misery of Ji-Ah not knowing who she will be if she does finish capturing all the requisite souls. I did like that by the end of the episode, the mom seems to have accepted Ji-Ah for who she is and not as someone who might turn back into her daughter one day; she seems to be genuinely trying to help her and not a ghost.
Did anyone else think Ji-Ah's best friend was actually in love with her and that when she talked about being different she was talking about being gay rather than Communist? I don't know that she actually is the spy or that there even is a spy; I think she confesses because she loves Ji-Ah and is willing to die to protect her.
Love the little touch of Uncle George sending Atticus the movie.
The other thing I'm not sure about is the visions we see when Ji-Ah penetrates her victims. She clearly sees their pasts, but with the first dude she kills, she sees him climbing a mountain and having a kid, and it's not clear to me if she's seeing things he did or if she's seeing what he would have done if she hadn't killed him. She sees Atticus's future, but is that the first time she sees someone's future, or does she always see the arrested future?
Love the revelation that Atticus is a virgin; this makes so much about his relationship with Letty make sense. He doesn't know what he's doing at all.
I think the show is setting up a love triangle, and OMG I love both prongs. LOL I love Letty, and I love Ji-Ah. Eeeeeeep!
