1. I am one episode behind on Lovecraft Country, so this is a recap of Hippolyta's episode.

I am intrigued by where Ruby/Cristina could be going. I don't know if we can believe anything Cristina says, but I do believe her that William was killed by the sheriff and that she wants revenge for him. I do not believe that's all she wants, though. LOL I am still wondering if the William we see in the first couple episodes of the show is always also Cristina; I am inclined to believe yes.

I am intrigued by the idea that Hannah escaped with the book. I suspect she did and that it will be found because otherwise it's a hell of a red herring.

I am way less interested in Letty being pregnant with Tic's baby. But I very much like her making up with Ruby and maybe healing some of the hurt between them.

Montrose is breaking my heart. I wonder if Tic's mom knowing that he is gay is another bit of support for George being Tic's dad; maybe they had an arrangement.

I love how smart Hippolyta is. I love that she figures out how to open the orrey and then how to operate the machine. I love that Tic shows up to save her, but I wish they had the presence of mind to sling the cop she shoots into the portal as well.

I love Hippolyta's journey through the holodeck. Her sojourn with Josephine shows her all the freedoms she has been denied, the ways she's been hamstrung that she wasn't even consciously aware of. Then she becomes the Amazonian Hippolyta and enacts violent revenge on the white people who have oppressed her, and when she's tired of that, she becomes George's wife again. She's able to say to him all the things she never could in life about how despite loving him, their relationship left her diminished and wanting more. And then they go have awesome space scientist adventures.

She chooses to go back for her daughter. As the previews for last week's unwatched episode indicated that Diana is about to be in some peril (due to her comic being left behind at the scene with the dead cop), I hope Hippolyta shows up screaming, "I am Hippolyta, Diana's mother, and I am going to kick your ass!" I hope she remembers everything she learned and that she retains the skills she acquired like dancing and fighting. We'll see.

2. Episode 2 of Lucifer:

Okay, I've thought Tom Ellis is a good actor the whole time, but this dual role? Wow. His voice, his mannerisms, everything is completely different when he flips between Lucifer and Michael. So the show is clearly setting up Michael (motivated by his jealousy of Lucifer) to be the season's big bad, and I deeply love that because it creates so much delicious identity confusion possibilities.

I'm disappointed in Maze for initially going along with Michael's plan but proud of her for refusing in the end.

It will be interesting to see what we learn about Chloe's purpose now that the cat is out of the bag for her. I mean, on the one hand, I don't see how her being created for a specific purpose is super far afield from what many religious people believe anyway--that god puts them on earth for a reason to accomplish some specific good. We'll see.

I love that Chloe figures out he's not Lucifer early into the game. That reveal was awesome.

Y'all have reassured me that teenage Linda did not kill her baby or it otherwise die, so I'm assuming it's going to be an adoption storyline which I can handle. Whew.

Really looking forward to watching more now that we've finally gotten started.

Did you ever hear the Eurythmics cover? I used to have an mp3 (yes!) of them doing it live in the eighties, which I found again through the Magic of YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilp_rG34-oE

-- Fucking LOL, apparently this isn't the version I had either, that one was distributed by freaking NME. In the ways of the internet, someone DID upload that version in 2007, which is probably where I got it, but that mp3 link is 404 now. http://dalstonoxfamshop.blogspot.com/2007/02/nmes-mad-mix-ii-1983-cassette-comp.html

Lucifer only gets better but avoid spoilers at all costs... unless you have to ask something, like about the baby. :D

I loved this ep of Lovecraft Country! Hippolyta is so smart and strong and determined, even before she starts out. I especially loved how when she was stuck in the white spaceroom, she started taking it apart and hot-wired and door and everything! *heart-eyes*

(I enjoyed your review of the last ep, too, but I had issues with the ep itself, and I didn't want to say anything to harsh your squee.)

We haven't watched the next one yet, either.

1) I think I would have liked the Hippolyta episode more if I hadn't loved the book version so much. They're very different, partly in Tic's involvement (he does not appear in the book version at all; in fact, no other main characters even ever know about her extra-terrestrial adventures) and partly in everything that happens with and inside the portal. Hippolyta isn't small in the book to start off, see. She finds the portal and chooses to step through and have adventures. She doesn't need rescuing, and she doesn't need building up to save herself. She's always got that agency and adventurous spirit. And making the woman she meets on the other side of the portal inhuman and not part of the main plot is an odd choice.

2) Tom Ellis is awesome! He's such a weasel as Michael. But no spoilers!
