1. Talking meme:
resonant asked me to talk about tropes.
My absolute favorite trope of all time is pining. Love it. I love it when Draco is pining for Harry and thinks he's never going to be worthy of him and everyone cries a lot. All the angst and all the sadness for me. I do prefer it when they get together in the end, but it's not a deal breaker for me.
I love crossovers, especially the really clever ones that integrate the two worlds successfully with a minimum of suspension of disbelief.
I love time travel. I don't need it to be "scientifically plausible" or make a lot of sense. I'm already suspending my disbelief for time travel, so the mechanics of how it works are not super important to me. It's an excellent vehicle for angst and simultaneously for fixing whatever is wrong in canon.
Also really like pretending to date for whatever reasons and marriage of convenience/arranged marriage/forced marriage. Those scenarios tend to lead to the slow burn I really enjoy in fic.
2. So a couple of days ago, Fiona and I were in the yard and noticed a brown thrasher, the fluffiest and plumpest one I'd ever seen, rooting around in the leaves. It was so cute throwing the leaves up with its beak and eating the uncovered bugs. It let us get really close to it while talking and also not stepping quietly. I think maybe it can't fly. IDK But it has no problem with proximity to people. It was back in the yard again yesterday, so I think maybe we have a yard pet (until the owls or hawks or foxes eat it). Fiona has named the bird Wobbles.
3. I got a Christmas card from decynthus!

Date: 2021-01-05 06:43 pm (UTC)Erm... I may like it a little myself. :D Someone's bookmark on a collection of my POI fic just read "John pines" which I thought was very fair.
Also, I absolutely love crossovers of the 'logical' type.

Date: 2021-01-06 04:46 pm (UTC)I'm not a Starsky & Hutch fan but I am a fan of The Professionals (these US and UK shows gets compared a lot). As a mate of mine said "Starsky & Hutch would die for each other while declaring their undying love. Bodie & Doyle would die for each other while saying "and don't think I'm doing this for you." :D

Date: 2021-01-07 03:49 pm (UTC)I was never a Starsky & Hutch fan, much more comfortable with the Professionals, the English take on it but both shows have aged badly in some ways because of being from the late 70s/early 80s.
Still, for fun, here's the Professionals "recruitment" fanvid my mate Ancastar made:

If you've watched enough English telly you might recognize the curly haired one as Martin Shaw, early on in his career.

Date: 2021-01-06 04:39 pm (UTC)It's one of the reasons I am always so disappointed at the dearth of Harry/Ron in HP.
