I continue to be grateful

We had planned to leave yesterday to go visit Josh's sister for the weekend.
Wednesday night, her husband started coughing. He got vaccinated (J&J) back in April, but he got a test yesterday in an abundance of caution. He got the results today. He has COVID.
I'm so glad he got tested. His symptoms are very, very mild. I'm so glad he even had symptoms at all because we would all have gone and potentially gotten sick.
On Friday, my kid is supposed to go back to school in a district where I don't think they're going to be doing any mitigation measures anymore. None. She's going to wear a mask, but I'm pretty sure nobody else (adults included) will be. In two weeks, I'm going back to work and we're not socially distancing or requiring masks or requiring vaccines. I keep hoping that some of this is going to change in the next week. *sigh*
But for now I am deeply grateful that for at least a little while longer my family is safe.

Date: 2021-07-31 09:48 am (UTC)I was really skeptical about my institution but I have to give them props for last year. Because all of our classrooms were socially distanced and because of the mask mandate, transmission was really low. I'm afraid of what this year will be like now that we're all back in classrooms with no socially distancing and no masks.
I worry about Fiona, too. Her school was "socially distancing" and "wearing masks" last year but like in the most in name only way. I think the only reason her school was fine is that 5-7 year olds are extremely resilient and that age group has statistically been okay (with exceptions and lord do I not want her to end up one of them).
