emella made a post about the recent crop of apocalypse fics that are going around fandom. Now, Buffyverse fic has always had its share of apoca-fic; the end of the world is part and parcel of canon in that fandom. But I've noticed a good bit of it in Firefly fic recently, and I suspect it's being written in other fandoms too. emella wondered if maybe the recent emphasis on apoca-fic is a direct result of the current global political situation. So, why do you guys think we're seeing a lot of this kind of fic lately? Is it the war on terrorism? Is it simply that writers who write in fandoms where apocalypses are part of canon are writing in other fandoms, as in a Buffyverse writer moving on to Firefly? Or is there something else that we as readers and writers find really damn compelling about the world going to shit?
