1. One of Emma's teachers was spouting Q-Anon adjacent bullshit in class about microchips in vaccines in what he thinks is probably a plausibly deniable kind of way. I am so weary of being surrounded by this kind of evil. I didn't call the school when we'd been here five minutes and the K-12 school district refused to air Obama's presidential address to students. I did call the school when Emma's sex ed (for values of sex ed that were not about sex or ed; the first year they did it, I opted Emma out because I knew it was going to be abstinence-only bullshit, but the second year, she told me not to opt her out because she had to sit in the gym or something else really boring the whole time, and she'd rather just sit through the bullshit) teacher told the class that God intended for marriage to be between a man and a woman. I don't think it changed anything, but I gave the principal a piece of my mind on that one. I'm not going to call the school over this because it's just not worth it; Emma can't be contaminated by anything he says, and I worry that complaining would make things harder for her in his class. She's just got to hang on until May.

2. No vaccine for college teachers in GA in the educator stage that just began, only K-12. It's really sad when MS and AL are doing better than we are at the rollout.

3. Josh noticed some cracks in the walls of the garage, and the insurance people came out today, so we're going through the process of seeing about getting that fixed plus a little patch of brickwork on the outside of the house that has looked wonky since we bought it. Josh has tied himself up in knots about this assuming it will be expensive. *pets him* I'm just choosing not to give a shit about it at the moment. It'll be fine. *hand waves*

4. The shirt that [personal profile] spikedluv got me from the people on the HGTV show Hometown arrived today. It's perfect!

5. My friend M is home from her travels, and she brought everyone goodies. I got a Muji notebook. I have been really excited about trying this brand.

6. I just bought a cabinet on Wayfair so I can finally get all my office/school/stationery supplies organized. Right now the drawers of my desk are all jumbled, there's too much on the top of my desk, and there's a box of supplies in the closet. It's making me antsy; I need order and tidiness. So excited about that getting here in a couple of weeks. Then Josh gets to put it together, which I hope is not any kind of adventure. LOL

I really, really hate you.

Discovery is good. Really good. It looks fantastic. The credits are HBO-worthy (even if the score is a little lackluster).

The plot is interesting so far.

The characters, especially the lead, have drawn me in.

I WANT TO WATCH YOUR DAMN SHOW, AND I AM NOT PAYING FOR ANY MORE TV TO DO IT. SCREW YOU, SCREW YOU, CBS.

I am a die-hard Trek fan. I was listening to Star Trek in the womb. I will be happy to buy this series on DVD when it's done, but I'm not subscribing and paying for a new TV service. And if a hardcore Trekkie like me isn't willing to do so, I suspect this show is going to be hard up for a second season.

Which makes me sad. It's so good.

First, today sucked hard. If the world was on fire, I wouldn't piss on it to put it out. I cannot post about the source of my frustration, so let me just say, [redacted] and [redacted] and seriously? [redacted], you [redacted] *sigh*

In other news, Fiona does not have an ear infection; she's just figured out how to yank on her ear and apparently enjoys doing so. She weighs 12 pounds now, and seems just about ready to write a dissertation on how to drool on every damned thing. The doc thinks she's teething. At 3 1/2 months. Lovely.

Emma got to use a 3-D printer today which is super cool. I THINK MY BABY'S GOING INTO A STEM FIELD; IT FILLS MY HEART WITH RAPTURE! Go towards the money, sweetie! Do what you love, but go towards the money! LOL

Y'all, I am sorry. You know I don't post a lot of personal stuff on my blog, and I don't think I've ever really posted about politics, but I've about had it up to here, and I can no longer be silent.

As always, defriending amnesty day at Lorraine's journal.

Contains cursing and gratuitous use of capslock )

Y'all, most of the time I love living in the rural South. I truly do. There's lots of awesome things about being here. But sometimes I just can't take it anymore. I can't take that every television I see EVER in a public place is tuned to Fox News. I can't take it that every conversation I overhear in a public place is about how amazingly smart and awesome X Republican candidate is. I can't take the racism and the homophobia and the classism and the sexism. It's also possible I am in a really bad mood. :(

I thought Madonna's Superbowl halftime show was pretty much the epitome of awesome. She was beautiful and fit and had multiple costume changes and was dancing up a storm and showcased many of the songs I love. I can't tell you how many times people in the room commented on her beauty and how happy she looked and how fantastic her dancing was.

The woman is 53 years old, old enough to be my mother, and she has a better body and can dance better than I will ever even dream of accomplishing in my lifetime.

Imagine my surprise when NPR tells me Twitter was all ablaze last night with hatefulness about how old she looked. Really? I would give my eyeteeth to look half as good as she does (And what are eyeteeth anyways? Why are they so precious to us?).

I'm sorry Madonna isn't 23 anymore. I'm sorry she's hotter (and hells yes she is hotter to me) more than 30 years after "Holiday." I'm sorry she didn't just dissolve into nothingness once she hit 40 like the media seems to think most women should do. Let's all fawn over Harrison Ford and Sean Connery and Clint Eastwood while Lorraine is in the corner gagging.

Do you know what separates humans from animals besides the opposable thumbs and insane credit card debt?

Manners, my friends. Manners.

I am sick and tired of going into a public restroom stall that looks like a hyena has been in there spraying her scent. I am tired of the fine misting of urine that coats every surface and the inch deep puddle of piss that pools around the base of the toilet.

For the love of all that is holy, ladies, sit on the freaking toilet to pee!

I don't care what urban legend your best friend told you in junior high--you cannot contract flesh-eating syphilitic gonnorhea from sitting on a public toilet seat. Unless you plan to scrub an open wound on the commode or clean it with your tongue, your body is pretty much an impenetrable fortress and safe from from the evil toilet germs.

I am tired of accidentally sitting in pee. I am tired of wiping up other people's pee. I am tired of stepping in pee and smelling pee. My vision of the ideal human condition does not involve hovering in a squat and releasing my bladder willynilly over a device which was designed To Be Sat Upon.

I have the opposable thumbs and the massive debt, and I sit on the toilet to pee instead of hosing down the stall for the next person. O. M. G. !!!!!!!!!

Column due today.

Column written today with plenty of time to spare, all leisure-like and easy breezy.

Latter bits of column erased by piece of shit laptop upon saving.

*screams*

I finished the column and turned it in (basically I was just reproducing what I'd already written), but I could very gladly engage in some violence about now.

I guess I'll settle for merlot.

I really didn't know very much about the man until this week. I knew he had exiled himself from America to avoid going to jail for criminal charges, but I didn't know what the charges were or anything about his life. In my twenties, I watched several of his movies and enjoyed them, most notably The Ninth Gate.

Since posts about the petition to exonerate him of charges started circulating on the flist, I've done some research about Roman Polanski, and I have this to say about the controversy:

A THIRTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL PERSON CAN NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, CONSENT TO ANY SORT OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH A FORTY-FOUR YEAR OLD MAN PERSON. EVER. EVER. THAT IS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS RAPE, AND IT IS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS WRONG.

I suppose we are to assume that the celebrities that signed that petition won't mind if Roman Polanski rapes their children. He's so awesome, after all.

Edited to more accurately reflect my position.

I have been working my behind off this week, gathering data for a project, conducting interviews, fleshing out outlines. I had a meeting today at 10:00, I thought. Oh, no. The meeting was at 9:30, downstairs. Why did they not come up to my office and get me!?!!!! Now I look like a total flake. They probably think I didn't even do the work. I really really think I am going to cry.

And....I am.

Uggggh!

I hate my computer. I was just reading Nexus by Raksha (yes *again*) and my computer did this lovely thing it is in the habit of doing--it turned the whole freaking page into Klingon. And I was just at the really good part where Angelus is being so mean to Xander. (And yes, that says a whole lot about me and my little bag of psychoses that that's my fave part of the fic. But it is. So there.) Mi computadora (see, watching Dora the Explorer with my 2 yr old *is* educational) did this to me when I was reading "Changes" too! I hate this computer.

*kicks it*
