If You’re Breathing by Sandy Justine Neville/Harry PG This short piece takes place in the Room of Requirement during a meeting of the DA, and it really highlights the strengths that Neville’s character has grown into by this point in canon. "Here's the thing," Harry said. "Neville's probably the best duelist in the room. Why? Because he came at me, unarmed, without a chance, and he just beat me. What are the rules he remembered? Hannah?" "If you're breathing, keep fighting," Hannah murmured into the floor. “And?" "Disarm your opponent and keep them that way," several people added. "Neville knows that better than anybody else," Harry said. "Last year he went after a Death Eater who was about to kill me. He had a broken nose, and Hermione's wand, which wouldn't have transformed a matchstick for him. You know what he did? Nobody talks about this. Neville, did you never tell?"

A Thousand Beautiful Things by Duinn Fionn Harry/Draco, Hermione/Neville and other assorted het pairings—Adult. After the war, Harry becomes affected by a spell that threatens to ruin his life; Draco decides to save him, but his motives are mistaken.

Underwater Light by Maya Harry/Draco R-ish This fic really doesn’t hit its stride until the third or fourth chapter. I find the beginning a wee bit confusing—it’s sort of hard to place the fic in time and figure out how the plot is functioning. *However* once you get to that fifth chapter or so, it comes alive and is just simply glorious. This is essentially the same version of Draco from “If you’ve a Ready Mind” except this Draco is more overtly sexual, more damaged, more edged. I adore the way the Slytherins are portrayed in this fic and the position of responsibility Draco holds among them. Loved Those of Great Ambition is set in the same verse and is told from Pansy Parkinson’s POV. I love how Pansy from her POV is never as sure or confident or sexually aware as she appears in Harry’s POV.

lisew Sirius/Remus This is described as a companion piece to No one Ever Said it Would Be This Hard, but I think it functions better to imagine it as a standalone. It takes place in an AU sixth year at Hogwarts and features a Harry who is trying to understand Remus’s grief.

All Soul’s Day by Phineas Sirius/Remus This is a lovely reunion fic, short and spare, and oh so bittersweet because we know what happens next. hackthis Sirius/Remus R-ish. This is Maurader-era Sirius/Remus and it is sweet and wry and full of adolescent heart pangs. For such a short piece, such an emotional punch. The story should go like this: The boy is Prince Charming. Prince Charming comes from a rich, noble family. He cares about the family honour and all that other business. He marries a nice girl and they have lots of Pureblooded ankle-biters. That’s how it should go. Prince Charming should not want a Prince Charming of his own.

Winter Kept us Warm Snape/Dumbledore Adult I find this fic fascinating, mostly because of the intriguing and beautiful way that Occlumency and Legilimens are described—the mind in this fic is an actual landscape and one that is arresting portrayed.

kaalee Seamus/Dean Normally I don’t really go for first person fanfic, but this is just sweet. Sweet, schmoopy, darlin, cute as two peas in a pod those boys are.

Ron/Draco

How To Be Dead by

circe_tigana This is a link to the final chapter of the fic; all the previous chapters are linked at the top of the post. Ron/Draco Adult I don’t quite know how to describe this fic. The reader isn’t quite sure what’s going on until the bitter end, and oh, is it bitter. This fic is fairly bleak and fairly devastating for all the characters involved.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Badger by Maya Draco/Zacharias "Hail, fellow... tiny Death Eaters," said the doorman. "Hail," Harry said. "Er... we are indeed very small, for fully adult Death Eaters... Because we are all bastard Slytherins, whose growth was stunted in the unhealthy dungeons, cut off from the sunlight. Embrace the shrimplike powers of darkness! Muahahaha." How the Badger has Fallen is set in the same verse and in addition to being rather silly is also quite sad as we see Zacharias come to some realizations about himself.
