I signed up for
dvd_commentary and I would love it if you guys wanted to do a commentary on one of my fics. I'm going to be tackling
ana_grrl's "The End that Crowns Us" and possibly a second story if I have enough time. This challenge is one of my favorite things that fandom does; it never fails to make me happy.
SPOILERS FOR SGA THE DAEDALUS VARIATIONS
This episode is one of my favorites of the season so far. Let me tell you why.
1. I am a sucker for multi-verses anyway. I think they are so interesting and fun for what they reveal about the versions of the characters we know and love. It's fun to see a road not taken explored or to pause and be thankful that at least things aren't as bad as all *that* yet. Realizing that one Team McShep had already tried in vain to escape was an intense moment, I think. It's not really suspenseful because the viewers know they're going to make it out alright, but I thought Team 1.0's reactions to their dead doppelgangers were particularly well done. I love that Teyla cannot help but feel for the son that is not hers and Ronon's response to her fear and her grief was wonderful.
2. Which leads me to the Teamy Goodness OMG that abounds here. From Rodney and Torren to Ronon comforting Teyla to Rodney thinking like Sheppard to save the day, this was a good solid Team episode that left me very satisfied.
3. Chuck! Lorne and Radek are totally BFF!
4. Teyla kicks ass in this episode. She doesn't suddenly become a computer whiz, but she does demonstrate a compentency with equipment that makes sense if you are DEPENDING ON SAID EQUIPMENT TO KEEP YOU ALIVE! I love that she is proactive in understanding as much about her environment and the tools available to her as possible. This is a woman with sense and power and initiative. Good job show!
5. Conversely, I love that Ronon has no clue how to fire the rail gun. I love that he is genuinely stressed and overwhelmed and doesn't know what to do. I like that he isn't magically competent at something he's never done before. Jason Mamoa played those scenes so well. I guaran-goddamn-tee you next time Major Marks is offering a tutorial, Ronon will be there.
6. Canonical proof of John Sheppard's giant hard on for Atlantis FTW! There was no reason for John to automatically assume that Atlantis is the good guys in that reality. Maybe the Wraith live in Atlantis now or Replicators. Or maybe the expedition is evil in this reality. But, "It's Atlantis," he says. And that says it all for me. More and more and more as the series progresses I find myself thinking that those fics that peg Pegasus as the true home for our first wave are on the money.
7. Sheppard's narcissism amuses me.
8. I love Lorne's relief when he realizes that everyone is okay.
Who knows where I can get some Woolsey icons?

Date: 2008-08-06 11:10 am (UTC)Really? Cool! Also, *blush*
1. I love alternate realities SO MUCH. I can't even tell you. Just the idea makes me get all joyful. So I liked the premise of this one.
3. I REALLY REALLY want to see a b-team episode even more now. Seeing Lorne, Chuck and Radek in the control room together made me needy! Also, I loved Radek and Lorne doing stuff together. You know, like a romantic (heroic!) 'jumper trip.
Also, I deeply loved Lorne standing around in the control room with his hands on hips, being all exasperated.
4. I also liked how Teyla was competent with the computers and stuff.
5. Ronon's failure with the guns surprised me! I figured he would have seen these kinds of basic configurations before.
Also, when Sheppard told him to sit down at the gun console, and he had to undo his belt etc, I totally thought he was going to get comfy by taking off his pants.
Ronon: "I fire better with my pants off, Sheppard."
John: "Uh. Okay, buddy."
7. It was kind of sickening! John Sheppard - only really kind of interested in himself?
8. Mmmm, Lorne. I wish he worked better with his pants off, you know? Just...sometimes?

Date: 2008-08-07 12:45 am (UTC)I agree! Especially since I feel lately like a lot of episodes are basic rehashing of the same old character relationships. I want them to get beyond Rodney and John snarking at each other, sometimes.
Wait, wait. Who is this? I can't remember?
MK told me that she's heard that Parrish may be in three episodes this season. We are both seriously hoping this is true! And that there's some Parrish/Lorne interaction.
I wish I had time to do something like this!

Date: 2008-08-07 02:10 am (UTC)Even if Parrish only showed up in one episode, I would be thrilled!
