Harry Potter
The Ballad of Walburga Black (the Versified Remix)
Walburga/Orion; PG-13; heed warnings
I really like this backstory for Walburga, an accounting of a woman who had very little choice but to become a monster. And I'm quite impressed that Anon writes the whole fic in verse.
This Is an Essay
OFC-centric gen; autism; PG
This is a very interesting story about an OFC named Margaret. I really like the way the narrative shifts from first to third person and the way it's constructed around essays that Margaret must write for her "misbehavior." And I very much like seeing the way the canonical characters interact with Margaret.
Bacio (the Roll Over, Catullus mix)
Harry/Draco; Adult
How refreshing to read a Draco who remains manipulative and cunning and immune to any charms that Harry might have to offer. I really like the contrast between the face he presents to the world and his inner monologue. This is no HEA.
Bittersweet Symphony (The More Things Change Remix)
Minerva-centric gen; PG
I love this look at Minerva from the beginning of her tenure at Hogwarts all the way to her role as Headmistress.
You Are a Fever (The We Are Not Typical Remix)
Minerva McGonagall/Rolanda Hooch; PG-13
This is absolutely perfect. I love how Rolanda knows what she wants and goes after it. I love the way she sees the world in terms of Quidditch. I love the way she is unabashedly butch and at home in her own skin.
He That Outlives This Day
Padma and Hermione-centric gen; PG
After the war, Padma and Hermione go to Muggle university together. I love the choices Padma makes, the journey she takes to find herself, and how through her experiences she begins to find healing.
So It Goes (Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards)
Moody/Shacklebolt/Vance, Sirius/Remus; Adult
Three seasoned Aurors on watch duty with a wolf and an escaped convict going at it in the basement--you know. The usual. LOL I love how this starts like the best cop show ever, with the banter and the witty and the gambling, and then turns into something very much hotter. (Also and always my yay for the older characters getting some too!)
Star Trek: TNG
Hope of Thee (the Zombie Remix)
Lawaxanna Troi-centric gen; PG-13
In "Dark Page," we learn that Lawaxanna had a child who drowned when Deanna was too young to remember her. This is such a creepy, creepy fic as befits the episode it is based on. I feel so deeply for Lawaxanna here.
Star Trek: DS9
F is for Ferengi (The Tongo Remix)
Jadzia/Ishka (female Ferengi); Adult
From the secret world of the Ferengi women, to the ease with which Jadzia adpats to her surroundings, to the absolutely delightful way that she is drawn to a sexual partner for other reasons besides conventional standards of beauty--I love everything about this fic.
SG-1
Color Me (Written on the Body remix)
Jack/Daniel; Adult
The premise of this fic is that an alien temple causes Jack's emotions to change his skin different colors. I love the idea of a person's emotions being written on his skin, inescapable and there for all to see. It would make things easier in some ways and harder in others, I think. Very interesting idea.
Eight Takes on Cameron Mitchell, Air Force Officer in Exile
Sheppard/Mitchell; PG-13
This is the Continuum fix-it fic I didn't know I needed. I love Cam and John's relationship, and I love the ending (thank you thank you, Anon) which I won't spoil here because it is yay.
SGA
Scar Tissue (the Heal Thyself Remix)
Sheppard/Heightmeyer; PG-13
This is a very powerful story in which Kate is forced to kill a traumatized young man in order to save herself and her comrades. This is how she deals with a situation that is profoundly unfair to both her and the young man whose life was ransacked by the Wraith.
Quake at the Sight (Divine Grace Remix)
Teyla-centric gen; PG
Teyla discovers Christmas and Yule and Hanukkah, and with her usual insight, does not focus on the ways that these traditions are different but instead the ways in which they are the same. Full of teamy goodness.
