The pace picks up in the second and third volume. We learn the tragic story of Hatori who was forced to mind wipe the love of his life when the mysterious Akito goes apeshit at the prospect of Hatori getting married. Really tragic storyline (what do you want to bet fandom ships Hatori with Akito? even though he blinded Hatori sheesh). We also learn that something is up with why Shigure and Akito have allowed Tohru to stay with them. They keep mentioning a curse and using Tohru in some mysterious way. This seems to be a romance, so I wonder if it's that she has to fall in love with one of them and that breaks the curse; I would imagine love is hard to come by for the Sohmas since they guard their secret so jealously and hugging somebody instantly reveals their zodiac animal.
Emma and I have also started debating who is endgame for Tohru. She prefers Kyo to Yuki; she thinks Yuki is too perfect. I have no preference at this point, but I think it's interesting to speculate how the romance will develop.
I also learned a new word: onsen. Which came in handy when I was getting a pedicure as that was the name of one of the treatment options. :)
I have been notified that volumes 4-6 have arrived at the library so I'll be picking those up tomorrow.
Emma and I watched The Croods tonight, and I really really liked it. I am a sucker for a story about parents realizing that they have to let their children grow and change and make their own decisions while the children simultaneously realize that their parents aren't complete dumbasses and make most of their decisions out of love or fear for their children's well being. Which is probably why Finding Nemo reduces me to a quivering mess every single time I watch it. The Croods was no exception. Serious sniffle time at the end. IDK what was wrong with me (maybe I'm tainted by Littlefoot's mommy), but I was genuinely worried that the movie was going to end with Grug dying or permanently separated from his family. Sometimes I think I shouldn't be allowed to watch cartoons. Or credit card commercials. Or Very Special Episodes of Television. LOL
