Our internet went out this weekend, and it’s only just now fixed. I am not happy. I need to be able to use the internet from home to grade, so I ended up spending hours more than I usually would on campus so I could grade. I also couldn’t do stuff like check our online banking or look up something random I wanted to know or comment on failfandomanon. I could technically do all those things on my phone (and I did read LJ and DW), but some sites are difficult to navigate on my phone, and commenting is really hard for me (texting is beyond my skill set; thank goodness most times I can talk into my phone and have it transcribe what I’m saying).

So here are the things I wanted to post about while I was away:

1. Fruits Basket! )

2. All the Americans who believe that changing the time twice a year is a good idea should have to take care of an infant and a dog for a week after the time change while also continuing to fulfill their regular responsibilities and obligations. I do prefer waking up in the morning to sunlight but NOT THAT MUCH!

3. Who else thinks what the world needs now is a Peter Quill vid set to "Ain't No Other Man" by Christina Aguilera?

4. Rest in peace, Tom Magliozzi. I care shit all for cars, but you and your brother have brought a great deal of laughter and joy into my life over the years. Thanks for sharing your expertise and your mirth with us all.

5. I just placed a ginormous perfume order with BPAL, and I hope it will arrive before Christmas. :) Emma picked out imps of Dragon's Milk, Al-Shairan, How Doth the Little Crocodile, Schrody's Cat, Eden, and Good. I picked out imps of Bewitched, Troll, Kumiho, Whitechapel, Alecto, and Strangler Fig. I also got full-sized bottles of Phobos and Incantation for myself plus a full-sized bottle of Elf for Emma. I can't wait to try them all.

6. I am about to spam you all with some more posts (Walking Dead, kids today, Gotham) that I hope you all find mind-blowingly scintillating. Whoooooo!

1. We had to give Fiona steroids last weekend because she had some awful mystery virus that had her coughing her guts up all night. The steroids kept her coughing at bay and let her get mostly well again. We gave her the medicine for three days. The last dose was a week ago, Sunday morning. As soon as we started giving it to her, she lost her little mind. She became whiny, aggressive, perplexed, confused, ate us out of house and home, and started snatching things from our hands and screaming MINE! I assumed her behavior would calm down with a day or so of discontinuing the medicine. Not so, my friends. She didn't resume normal Feefers operations until Friday. We were giving her minuscule amounts of this drugs for a really short period of time, and they fucked her shit up. I can't imagine what they must do to a grown person who is voluntarily taking copious amounts of them. *shudders* Also, we aren't doing that again unless it's absolutely necessary because that was unpleasant for everyone involved.

2. SPOILERS FOR WALKING DEAD )

3. Furuba! My heart. You know, for something that I thought was going to be a really light-hearted romance, this is a deeply devastating story in which I can't truly imagine a happy ending for any of the characters. So much trauma. :(

4. I am ready for my Yuletide assignment. I thought for sure I'd be the only person offering this one thing, but I was wrong! So IDK what I shall match on now. So exciting. *jazz hands*

5. Exploration by Tamoline; Jeff Vandermeer's Southern Reach Trilogy
Okay, I've already recced one fic by this author in the same fandom, and I would be remiss to not to rec this one. It picks up from where the series leaves off, gives us some much longed for femslash, and captures the terroir (oh, I did it; I went there!) of the original so wonderfully. I am deeply besotted with the stories Tamoline tells in this universe, and you should go read this one so you can be too!

SPOILERS FOR FURUBA )

Who else is watching Penny Dreadful? I am really digging it. Love the cast, love the costuming, love the way the show continues to surprise me. Anybody have any thoughts to share?

SPOILERS )

Emma and I watched The Croods tonight, and I really really liked it. I am a sucker for a story about parents realizing that they have to let their children grow and change and make their own decisions while the children simultaneously realize that their parents aren't complete dumbasses and make most of their decisions out of love or fear for their children's well being. Which is probably why Finding Nemo reduces me to a quivering mess every single time I watch it. The Croods was no exception. Serious sniffle time at the end. IDK what was wrong with me (maybe I'm tainted by Littlefoot's mommy), but I was genuinely worried that the movie was going to end with Grug dying or permanently separated from his family. Sometimes I think I shouldn't be allowed to watch cartoons. Or credit card commercials. Or Very Special Episodes of Television. LOL

I just finished the first volume of Fruits Basket.

SPOILERS )

I also read Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer this week. Whoa. All female cast. Science fiction. Science. Mystery. Creepy. Dystopia. Such a damn good read. Highly, highly recommended.

Some things you all should know:

1. I am finally getting better! I have been sick for over a week, wretched and awful sick like I have not been since five years ago when I had to get an inhaler or else die. Penicillin is a yayness.

2. Pixie covers on commercials make me happy.

3. I meant to post about Winter Soldier after I watched it, but I didn't and then I got sick, and now I don't even remember what I wanted to say beyond squeeeeeeeeee! LOL

4. Being sick has interfered in my adventures in perfume. I've been unable to smell anything for ages. Bah. Although I have discovered that I love the way myrrh smells even so. It can penetrate through my fog of extreme illness to cover me in warmth and yumminess.

5. I just finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman and absolutely loved it.

6. I have just started reading Fruits Basket, and this is the first manga I've ever read. I am not finding it an intuitive read. LOL It is not always immediately apparent to me which panel I'm supposed to read next. Probably because I'm old like Katie Holmes (/Mindy Project shout-out).

Talk to me about these things or something else entirely. I have missed you all while the ague has oer'taken me.
