lunabee34I was going to make a big Chanel review post, but I just can't wait to tell you how much I adore Sycomore.

This is everything I wanted Guerlain Vetiver to be. The top notes of Guerlain Vetiver include citrus, like a lot of vetiver scents do, and the result is that the scent smells a bit sour to me. In Sycomore, there's just glorious vetiver and none of the salty/sour that I get from Guerlain Vetiver.
This is beautifully green and spicy and woody. I don't smell a single flower. And I know aldehydes are supposed to make a fragrance smell bubbly or "sparkling" or some such; I don't smell anything like that. I don't even know what "sparkling" would smell like. I don't smell anything smoky either. What I do smell is remarkably composed and put together, everything blended all together with no single note dominating. The drydown is fairly close to the wet stage, and it doesn't morph much over time. It has fair sillage and okay staying power; I've reapplied several times today, once because of washing dishes and once just because I wanted to wallow in the fragrance more deeply. LOL
I suspect that many people would perceive Sycomore as a masculine fragrance; I think it would smell fantastic on a man, but it definitely works for this woman. Sycomore smells to me like an elegant lady, the kind who always wears pearls and whose dresses always fall below the knee (but lordy those calves are sexy!) and who is always perfectly put together. And then she goes home and changes into some sort of lingerie type lounge wear that costs more than my laptop and drinks aperitifs out of exquisitely etched cordial glasses. THIS IS THE LADY I WANT TO SMELL LIKE, NOT THE POOPY DIAPER AND PLASTIC LADY! *grumble grumble Apres L'Ondee* LOL
Which is not to say that I think Sycomore is only for the rich jet-setting crowd; I think it's a relatively easy fragrance to wear, very warm and inviting. I don't think it would work on a very young person, though. It's not the fragrance for Ems, for example. Otherwise, I think this would work on just about anybody.
