Canon shows him apparently getting many of his memories back by the end of the first couple of episodes after he comes back... by the end of their big mission to Kelowna he tells Jonas he's pretty much remembered everything.

Whether you BELIEVE that, is of course, up to you!!!

ETA: IMHO canon really underplayed the whole amnesia thing. They could have a done a lot with it.

Oh, I completely agree. The amnesia should have been played to the max for all its angsty (and even comedic potential).

It's basically muzzily handwaved in the first few episodes - very much comes across as a "it was a good idea at first but quickly became a bloody nuisance to write".

Fanfic does it better, say it as I probably shouldn't (and okay, sometimes fanfic does it worse... but not much!)

Oh, I definitely think the show missed a lot of angst potential for sure. I do love an amnesia plot.

Somebody said in another comment that the amnesia should have been played up more, and I agree. So much character arc and emotional potential there that went wasted.

True but OTOH it left so much room for angsty fic that I can't even be mad. Personally I would want funny/crackfic where Daniel uses it to troll people.

That would be fun. I feel like Daniel doesn't get to do comedy much in fanfic.
