The Best He Can Do" by moony Brokeback Mountain fic; Ennis-centric; very plausible look at Ennis later in life that preserves the starkness of the film version; rated PG; it's a weeper.

A Bridge Too Far by executrix Firefly fic; Simon/Mal; rated R; I've secretly (okay, not so secretly, LOL, dubbed this "Pon Farr Madness")

FrogStar's Trek Page of video and soundclips Don't you want to hear Shatner sing "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds?" Or maybe hear a clip of Worf breaking Geordi's violin to smithereens? There's also the not to be missed "Star Trekkin' Across the Universe," an Australian song that apparently made the charts there. "We come in peace, shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill...."

Big Sky Country by executrix It's Brokeback Firefly! Very short, but all the more powerful for being succint.

This is (Not) a Love Story by mireille719 Buffyverse fic; Giles/Xander subtext; fits neatly into canon and makes some interesting structural choices. Will make your heart ache.

I prefer fics of a few thousand words or less ('cause I like to read a story all in one sitting and am usually pressed for time) so very few of the hundreds of fics I have recced (http://www.athenewriter.com/whedonrecs.html) are longer than that.

hermionesviolin is quite correct to say that I like long stories the best. That's why I end up reccing so many of them. But, I find that, if not a majority, then at least a significant amount of the Buffyverse fic I come across is rather long, so who knows?

I think that Five Things is on my To Read list. Congrats on the Strawberry nom. I got to be Link Lady to your commenter 'cause I got nommed, too. Mine wasn't a surprise, though, 'cause mine was nommed by a beta so she had e-mailed me asking for a link to the story etc. I really should have gone through my recs to nom some stuff -- passing the karma and all -- but I was busy/lazy/whatever. *sucks*

I read the Simon piece, and it made me sad. :( I hated the bits with Jayne, but not because of the writing, but because of the killing of Jayne. It's great writing, and you do deserve an award for it. It's sort of a cutting piece, it cuts at you and leaves an impression. :) Haven't read the Inara piece yet.
