1. [personal profile] resonant asks: If it were Consume Fannish Media with Emma night, what fandom would you introduce her to, and how do you think she'd react?

Emma is such a glorious nerd, and so she's consumed most of the canons that I think she'd like (Harry Potter, MCU, Trek Reboot, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc). She's definitely a product of the 21st century, and she doesn't have much patience with the production values of older stuff (or even dated hair styles and clothing). I'd really like to introduce her to Buffy, but I suspect she wouldn't like it much in the early seasons. I think by the time we got to season 5, she'd be over the moon for it, but you kinda have to watch those preceding four season for season 5 to break your heart the way it does. I do think she'd dig Firefly, and I'd like to rewatch that with her at some point. I'd also like to do a new-to-both-of-us watch of Guardian. [personal profile] china_shop and [personal profile] trobadora have convinced me we'd both like it.

I think she would probably also like the Neflix MCU series; when we started watching them, they were inappropriate for her to watch. Now I think it would be fine, but we are moving through them so slowly ourselves (we haven't even finished Jessica Jones season 2 yet) that it'll be like five years from now before we could go back to the beginning and start over with her. LOL

I'm just not into TV as much anymore. It's a real chore to make me sit down and regularly watch a show. This year, I decided to quit watching Walking Dead, and because Lucifer got cancelled and hasn't started back up yet on Netflix and because Gotham doesn't start airing until spring, for the first time in years, I have no scheduled TV to watch. And I love it.

I really do want to watch stuff (Jessica Jones season 2, Luke Cage season 2, The Punisher, Daredevil Season 2, Stranger Things, Godless), but it's like I can't get motivated to do it. IDK

2. [personal profile] umadoshi: Is there a book/show/movie you mean to read/watch that you find yourself putting off for fear of it not living up to your hopes?

Not really. I hesitate to revisit some childhood favorites because I'm afraid they won't live up to the nostalgia, but that's about it.

Buffy is difficult. I found season 1 nearly unwatchable even at the time, but found it massively improved even by season 2. I think it might work better if you binge-watch and get through the early parts quickly?

I still haven't watched the MCU shows myself, but I'm still planning to one day. I don't watch much TV these days, either. (That is, even less than I used to, which was already massively less than most people I know!)

(Also, I hope you do end up watching Guardian, because it's THE BEST. :D)

I started a season 1 Buffy rewatch and didn't get very far! So yeah, I see how that would be difficult. But worth it in the end, eventually. :)

I feel the same way about TV. The only time I watch anything is while washing dishes, and then I'm only looking for soothing old stuff (mostly Grey's Anatomy). I don't have anything new I'm looking forward to! Oh, except The Good Place. That one is nice for [personal profile] bell and I to watch together.

I'm the same way about TV. The only show I watch is Doctor Who. There are a few Netflix shows I want to see, but we don't have Netflix. And even though I wanted to rewatch Babylon 5 this year, I didn't even start it.

I'm so slow about getting to TV, unless I hit on one of my occasional binge-watch moods. >.< And yet there's so much of it out there. (Like everything else.)

I can see Buffy being hard. I loved it, but I can't ever see myself rewatching it, partly because in so many ways it's been surpassed by the things it helped make way for. (It's a bit like when I showed [personal profile] wildpear a good chunk of X-Files--there's still a lot I love about it, but it's a tough one for somebody to start watching now, after all the things that followed.) But it'd be so cool if you show it to Emma and she does bond. *^^*

I watch TOO MUCH TV! I wish I watched less, but when it comes to thinking about which shows to give up I'm like *hugs them all* I can't decide!!! OTOH I always wish I had more time to read (instead of the watching and commenting), which is why I love the less populated summer tv schedule so much!

W00t! Yay for 5.22 miles!

I'm glad you're feeling better! (And you're welcome for whatever little bit I helped. *g*)

I've rewatched Buffy S1 recently and I have to admit I still love it, although I don't know how much of it is the nostaglia/existing love factor. It's still ridiculously quotable though and oh they were so young, you forget Buffy was only 16 when she dies in Prophecy Girl

Has Emma seen the new She-Ra cartoon on Netflix? It's fricking adorable and queer friendly

When Buffy first aired it was so much better than almost anything out there, and that the television landscape has changed so much since then that I can see how a new viewer wouldn't get that, necessarily.

One of my main fandoms is a show from 1971, and if it weren't for the two main performances being amazing, I would trip over the cheesy background music, low production values, and periodic sexism. But for whatever reason, it inspires me to write more than anything, maybe because of its flaws, and my feeling that the leads deserved better? So I try to give it to them?
